Ho Chi Minh City promotes innovative startup ecosystem

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is actively realizing the goal of making science, technology, innovation and digital transformation the main driving force to rapidly develop modern productive forces, perfect production relations, innovate management methods, and develop a worthy socio -economy in the new era.

According to Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, the results achieved in science, technology, innovation, as well as digital transformation in recent times are vivid proof that Ho Chi Minh City truly considers science and technology as the driving force for the city's development.

At the end of 2024, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, which is a favorable condition and a "push" for Ho Chi Minh City to continue its strategy in the upcoming development period.

“Ho Chi Minh City considers science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the main driving force, the new driving force to promote the city's development in the new period, in the new era,” said Mr. Lam Dinh Thang.

According to the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, the locality ranks third in Southeast Asia in terms of startup ecosystem value with an estimated economic impact of 5.22 billion USD.

Ho Chi Minh City is ranked 111th globally, in the top 100 global startup cities in 4 fields: Fintech (ranked 54), Edtech (ranked 62), e-commerce and retail (ranked 71) and transportation (ranked 87).

The workshop focused on discussing solutions on policies, infrastructure and human resources to create a favorable environment for innovative startups.

Delegates visited the exhibition space of science and technology products displayed at the conference.

By 2030, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology aims to have more than 40% of enterprises engaging in innovation activities, the commercialization rate of scientific research results reaching 8-10%, the number of patent applications and patent protection increasing by an average of 16-18% per year, forming 5,000 innovative startups, putting Ho Chi Minh City in the group of 100 most dynamic startup ecosystems in the world.

At the event, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SIHUB) announced the 2025 Innovation Project Incubation Selection Program. The program aims to support startups in accessing financial resources, consulting, training and testing connections, creating momentum for sustainable development.
