Youth building urban civilization

- “Building a civilized urban area” is one of the key activities of the entire political system, aiming to build a new lifestyle, in accordance with community standards in a civilized and modern direction, helping to improve the quality of people's lives. This is also one of the key movements of the urban youth union, attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate.

Realizing the importance of building civilized urban areas, the Youth Union in general and the Youth Union chapters in urban areas in the whole province in particular have concretized the movement "An Giang Youth participate in building civilized urban areas", with many specific projects and tasks. Each Youth Union member also builds tasks suitable for themselves, contributing their youth to the process of building the urban area where they live" - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of An Giang province Do Minh Sang informed.

Every year, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee issues a plan to implement the movement; maintain the "Youth Road" project to participate in building urban civilization, with mandatory criteria, such as: Standard, synchronous and straight flagpoles; roads and sidewalks are always clean; no stagnant water, garbage, wastewater; reasonable arrangement of trash bins along the entire route; planting trees in parks and flower gardens to create green landscapes; mobilizing people to hang Uncle Ho's pictures in their homes; organizing a series of Green Sunday activities in the "Volunteer Summer" campaign.

The results of the implementation of the project "Youth Road" to build urban civilization were included in the criteria for evaluating emulation activities and year-end classification by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union. In 2024, the Youth Union at all levels will carry out specific tasks, such as: Cleaning; scraping and erasing illegal advertising and classified signs on the registered route; distributing leaflets and propagating electricity saving; coordinating with the police to ensure traffic order and safety, eliminating "black spots" of environmental pollution in canals and ditches in wards and towns throughout the province; planting more than 85,000 trees of all kinds on roads and schools. The activities attracted nearly 7,000 young union members to participate. The whole province maintains 156 youth volunteer teams to ensure traffic safety, with the participation of more than 1,900 young union members, cadres and soldiers.

This year, also with the spirit of shock and volunteerism of the youth, thousands of Youth Union members from all wards and towns in the province have launched a campaign to build a civilized urban area. The highlight of the movement is that it is associated with 5 teams. The team "Youth volunteers to ensure security, order and traffic safety" is responsible for propagating traffic safety, clearing encroachment on sidewalks and roads; propagating disease prevention and control. The team "Youth volunteers to protect the environment" is responsible for propagating the restriction of the use of plastic waste, replacing it with recycled products; cleaning the environment, and clearing sewers. The team "Youth volunteers to build a civilized urban lifestyle" is propagating to people to build a civilized urban lifestyle; dismantling and erasing illegal advertising signs on fences and electric poles in the area. The team "Youth volunteers to build a green - clean - beautiful urban area" plants trees, beautifies the urban area.

Most notably is the "Digital Literacy" team, including: Union officials, union members, association members, and young people with good knowledge of technology; capable of organizing activities to raise awareness and essential digital skills for people (focusing on the elderly and people with little exposure to technology). This team is responsible for guiding people and households to participate in reputable e-commerce platforms of domestic enterprises; sales skills through e-commerce platforms; non-cash electronic payment skills, other digital applications serving production and business; guidance on online public services, interacting with the government via digital platforms. With small steps, the province's youth expect to contribute to the province's big steps in forming a community that adapts to digital transformation; participating in building a digital government, digital society, digital economy, and digital citizens.

Secretary of the Youth Union of Chau Long 3 Hamlet (Chau Phu B Ward, Chau Doc City) Diep Nguyen Thuy Vy affirmed: “Recognizing the importance of building a civilized urban area, I and the local Youth Union are determined to participate in the movement, do the work that suits us, and contribute our youth to this process. This year, I and the teams spread out along the route; parading on motorbikes to promote the building of a civilized urban area in Chau Doc City”.
