Following the introduction of the Bac Yen District Youth Union, we visited the pig farming model of member Dinh Van Thanh, Na Don village, Chieng Sai commune. In 2016, after graduating from Viet Tri Industrial University, realizing that the locality had many agricultural by-products and market demand, he invested 50 million VND of his savings to build a barn and buy 30 black pigs to raise. Initially, due to lack of experience and the outbreak of African swine fever, the pigs were destroyed. Not giving up, after the epidemic was controlled, Thanh cleaned up the barn, waited for enough quarantine time and continued to re-herd. With the District Youth Union's support, he borrowed 100 million VND from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, and continued to invest in developing pig farming.
Mr. Dinh Van Thanh shared: The family maintains raising more than 60 black pigs, the main food is corn and cassava grown locally. Each year, selling one batch, brings in an income of more than 150 million VND. In addition, the family also grows more than 1.5 hectares of sugarcane, bringing in an income of more than 100 million VND/year.
Going to the highlands of Xim Vang commune, we continued to be introduced to the good economic model of the Deputy Secretary of the Commune Youth Union, Giang A Senh. Mr. Senh built a model of cultivation, animal husbandry and homestay, developing experiential tourism. Currently, he is maintaining the raising of 10 buffaloes and cows; planting 300 peach trees; intensively cultivating more than 3 hectares of terraced fields. In addition, taking advantage of the abundant water source from streams and creeks, he dug a pond to raise 1,000 sturgeon. His annual income is more than 200 million VND.
Mr. Giang A Senh shared: At the end of 2022, seeing the increase in the number of tourists coming to Xim Vang commune to experience mountain climbing and admire the terraced fields, I invested in building a stilt house of more than 80 square meters as a homestay for guests; at the same time, I opened a service to guide tourists to the top of Sa Mu mountain, with prices starting from 500,000 VND/trip. The model not only helps me have a stable source of income but also creates regular jobs for more than 30 union members in the commune.
These are just two of many union members and young people in Bac Yen district who are taking advantage of the potential and advantages to get rich right on their homeland. Ms. Hoang Thi Hue, Secretary of the Bac Yen District Union, said: The whole district currently has 18 economic models owned by young people, with an average income of over 100 million VND/year. To create conditions for union members to have capital to develop the economy, union organizations in the district have guaranteed loans with the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, creating conditions for more than 2,300 union members and young people to borrow capital, with a total outstanding debt of over 128 billion VND. In addition, the District Union also coordinated to organize career counseling and job introduction for nearly 1,200 union members and young people; and vocational training for 200 young people. At the same time, the unit maintains cooperative groups, youth cooperatives, start-up clubs and supports union members and youth in developing livestock farming, fruit tree planting using technology, aquaculture and tourism.
