Thanh Hoa province has 3 border gates: Na Meo International Border Gate, Quan Son district; Ten Tan Border Gate, Muong Lat district; Kheo Border Gate, Thuong Xuan district, bordering Hua Phan province, Laos. In recent years, Thanh Hoa province has promoted import and export trade activities across the border, and trading activities have increasingly flourished.
According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa province, in the first 9 months of 2023, the total volume of goods exported through Na Meo International Border Gate reached over 68,000 tons, imported 24,832 tons, temporarily imported and re-exported goods 4,065 tons, transit goods 10,436 tons, with a total estimated value of 20,351 USD. The main export items of Thanh Hoa province across the border are mainly construction materials such as: iron, cement, ceramic tiles, sanitary equipment and construction machinery and equipment; imported items are wood, forestry products, agricultural products.

Na Meo International Border Gate connects trade with Nam Xoi district, Hua Phan province, and is considered a bustling border area with commercial activities. Currently, entry and exit, import and export activities between Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan provinces have been facilitated with favorable customs procedures. Some routes such as the border patrol road, Muong Lat town road - Border Guard Station 483 - G3 national border marker have been invested in, facilitating the trade of goods.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Head of Import-Export Department of Thanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade, said: To promote trade activities with Laos, since the beginning of 2023, the Department of Industry and Trade has advised the Provincial People's Committee to continue to strictly implement the work of preventing and fighting the COVID-19 epidemic; reform administrative procedures, create favorable conditions for entry and exit, import and export, and customs clearance. In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa always accompanies and creates favorable conditions for businesses and people of the two countries, as well as third countries in border trade activities.
In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa, together with relevant departments, branches and sectors and border districts, have promoted the dissemination of the contents of the bilateral agreements signed between Vietnam and Laos, and legal regulations between Vietnam and Laos related to trade, purchase and sale, and exchange of goods across the border to relevant organizations, businesses and individuals; organized conferences, seminars, talks, and training sessions; and posted the list of goods.
Thanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade has also advised the Provincial People's Committee to have appropriate policies to attract and call for investment to synchronously complete infrastructure for 16 border communes, especially infrastructure in border gate areas to gradually promote socio-economic development in border areas; directed and urged investors and contractors to speed up the implementation of programs and projects to invest in building infrastructure in border areas.

With the efforts of the Thanh Hoa Industry and Trade sector, since the beginning of 2023, import-export activities across the border between Thanh Hoa province and Hua Phan province have improved. The two sides continue to implement the policy on border trade activities to promote trade of goods, trade, and prevent political insecurity, social order and safety, and congestion of goods at the border gate area.
Import and export goods are mostly traditional items such as: Raw wood of all kinds, slats, corn kernels, cement, iron and steel... Total import and export value reached 19.672 million USD; of which, export value reached over 14.989 million USD, import value reached 4.682 million USD.
Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Pham Ba Oai, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa said: In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will advise the Provincial People's Committee to continue to prioritize the development of border trade infrastructure in line with the programs, goals, and orientations for socio-economic development in mountainous areas; develop trade infrastructure in sync with the development of border gate systems of Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan provinces, in accordance with the programs of economic, defense and security connection and cooperation between the two States of Vietnam - Laos and the two provinces of Thanh Hoa - Hua Phan; gradually adjust and issue a number of preferential and specific support policies to attract businesses to invest and do business in mountainous, remote and isolated areas.
