The owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) recently shared a video of himself on the platform with the message "higher education is overrated," according to Wionews on October 20.
In the video , Musk argues that the value of traditional university education is steadily declining.
Practical skills are more important.
This is part of billionaire Musk's speech at an event held in support of Republican presidential candidate and former US President Donald Trump in Philadelphia on October 17th.
Speaking at the event, Musk argued that many people spend four years in college only to end up with student debt after graduation, without acquiring any practical or useful skills.
Despite holding bachelor's degrees in physics and economics , Musk believes that an individual doesn't need four years of college to achieve success.
Instead, the Tesla founder argues that practical skills are more important. Billionaire Musk emphasizes that professions requiring hands-on experience, such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, play a more significant role in a person's career development than academic qualifications.
Musk said: "I have great respect for skilled workers. We need electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and this is far more important than the growing number of people studying political science."
"I think we should change the mindset that, to be successful, you have to spend four years studying for a college degree. That's completely wrong," Musk added.
Billionaire Elon Musk believes that higher education is "overrated" and that a college degree is not the key to success.

Elon Musk opposes traditional education.
This is not the first time billionaire Musk has spoken out against traditional higher education.
In 2019, he stated that employees did not need a college degree to work at his Tesla company.
In a speech at the 2020 satellite technology conference in the US, Musk said: "You don't need to go to college to learn everything. Basically, everything is available and free."
He added that while a university education is necessary and helps students gain social experience, it is not the only way to acquire knowledge.
"I think universities are basically for entertainment and proving that you can do housework. But universities are not places to learn," Musk said at the time.
