The match between Vietnam and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Group E (2nd group stage) of the 19th Asian Games women's volleyball was exciting. With a squad of athletes who are at their peak and have been "trained" through many quality tournaments, the Vietnamese team confidently entered the match against North Korea.
They quickly created a big gap of 4-1, 10-6, 18-12,… before winning quite easily 25-17 in the first set.
Entering the second game, North Korea revealed their lack of international experience and also lacked a real leader on the field.
Their playing style relied too much on Choe Pokhyang and Kim Hyonju, so they were easily 'figured out' by Vietnam. So it was no surprise when the Vietnamese 'long-legged' players won the second game with a score of 25-20.
But in the third game, the Vietnamese team showed impatience in their play. They were exploited by their opponents in the first step, so they had difficulty in coordinating attacks afterwards. Meanwhile, the North Korean girls played with the mentality of having nothing to lose, so they were quite excited. They continuously led before winning 25-20, shortening the score to 1-2.
The fourth game was extremely dramatic. With the excitement after winning the third game, North Korea continuously took the lead in points at the beginning of this game. Thanh Thuy and her teammates had to work very hard to catch up with North Korea at 11-11. From this point on, the Vietnamese team completely dominated the game to win 25-22.
With a 3-1 victory over North Korea, the Vietnamese team has one foot in the semi-finals of the 19th Asian Games women's volleyball.
