In recent years, Thang Long commune (Dong Hung) has implemented many economic development solutions to increase people's income, aiming to build a type V urban area. In particular, the locality focuses on importing, maintaining and developing industries, while building agricultural commodity models that bring high economic efficiency.
The sewing facility of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, Than Khe village, Thang Long commune, provides jobs for 65 local workers.
Previously, Thang Long commune mainly focused on agricultural production, so people's lives were still difficult. During the off-season, many workers in the commune had to go to work far away to earn extra income to cover their living expenses. Therefore, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune have focused on leading, directing, and implementing many economic development solutions, focusing on developing diverse industrial and handicraft production sectors to create jobs and increase income for people. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, owner of a garment factory in Than Khe village, said: Before, both my husband and I worked for a company and had no time to take care of our children. Seeing that there were many idle agricultural workers in our hometown while life was still difficult, my husband and I left the company to return home and opened a garment factory for export and domestic consumption (about 30,000 products/month), creating jobs for 65 workers, with an average salary of 5-6 million VND/person/month.
Thanks to people who boldly bring the profession back to their hometown like Ms. Huyen, many women with young children, the elderly, and the disabled in Thang Long commune have jobs.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Duom, An Liem village, excitedly said: I am over 50 years old, I cannot work in a company, Ms. Huyen brought the profession back to the countryside for people like us to do, it is very suitable. The work is easy, the working environment is very good, my monthly income is 6 million VND, thanks to that, my family life is more stable.
As for Mrs. Luong Thi Lieu, from Than Khe village, although she has to wear glasses to cut the threads of her clothes, she is still happy because she can still participate in the economy. She shared: My husband and I are old, but we can't sit around doing nothing while our family's economy is not stable. I took on a job to earn extra income to cover our living expenses and, importantly, to feel useful.
Not only promoting the development of industrial and handicraft production, Thang Long commune also focuses on increasing the value of agricultural production with many flexible methods. The commune promotes the conversion of rice varieties and crop structures associated with the application of science and technology in production; converts nearly 30 hectares of ineffective rice cultivation to flower, ornamental and fruit tree cultivation; encourages farmers to invest in machinery for agricultural production to increase productivity and free up labor. Develops livestock farming in a semi-industrial, bio-safe direction towards a closed process from breeding to slaughtering and distribution to improve quality and increase prices. The total herd of livestock and poultry in the commune currently has more than 11,400 heads. The average value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the past 3 years reached 28 billion VND.
As one of the households that escaped poverty thanks to boldly converting more than 5,000m2 of inefficient rice fields to successfully build the VAC economic model, Ms. Vu Thi Dan, Lo Vi village shared: In the barn, I raise chickens and ducklings, in the pond I raise fish, in the garden I grow peach and kumquat trees to serve the Tet market.
