Various forms of support

Over the past period, the Steering Committee for the implementation of the OCOP program in Thang Binh district has coordinated with and advised the Party Committee and the government to implement mechanisms and policies to support the improvement of production and business capacity for OCOP entities in the area.

Thang Binh district selects distinctive local products to promote the development of the OCOP program. The district's functional departments actively inspect food safety and hygiene, paying particular attention to guiding and supporting OCOP producers in producing products that meet Global GAP, Organic, GMP, HACCP, and ISO standards.

Thang Binh district's development strategy for OCOP products is to minimize the production of fresh produce and prioritize deep processing to enhance value and meet stringent market standards. The district has invited OCOP producers to participate in trade fairs and promotional programs to connect supply and demand for OCOP products.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Vice Chairman of the Thang Binh District People's Committee, the district's OCOP products have been continuously improved and upgraded over time, achieving significant changes in quality, design, and especially traceability.

The local OCOP product development direction is linked to the application of science and technology; focusing on developing high-tech agriculture ; and actively seeking and expanding markets for the products.

In 2024, Thang Binh district had 12 OCOP products recognized with 3 stars and 1 product with 4 stars. To date, the total number of products ranked in the OCOP star categories has reached 37.

Thang Binh District is calling for and encouraging businesses to invest in agriculture and rural areas, linking with cooperatives and farming households to invest in the production, harvesting, preservation, and processing of OCOP products, and supplying them to the market.

To further improve the quality of products participating in the OCOP program, Thang Binh district has set out several key tasks. These include guiding OCOP participants in completing product dossiers and organizing the evaluation and classification of OCOP products.

Focus on standardizing and upgrading already recognized OCOP products; promote trade and advertise OCOP products within and outside the district; and boost product supply to the market...

Ms. Tien said that previously, the production facility operated on a small scale, with the main market for her products being within the province. Participating in the OCOP program, and receiving support from relevant departments and authorities from the province, district, and commune levels, Ms. Tien focused on investing in improving her products, packaging, and designs. Thanks to the high quality of her products, the market has expanded nationwide.

“Being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product is a milestone in the development journey of the “Co Mot” cereal powder product. To continue developing, I am investing in expanding production scale and linking with households. Investing in OCOP products along the value chain brings benefits such as reduced production costs, increased productivity, a proactive supply of quality raw materials, and affirming the product's position,” said Ms. Tien.

Binh Nam pure peanut oil from Binh Nam Agricultural Service Cooperative is a product that has been re-evaluated and achieved OCOP 3-star standard. Mr. Tran Van Ninh - Director of the Cooperative - said that for many years, the unit has collaborated with people in Binh Nam commune to grow peanuts on an area of more than 100 hectares.

High-quality peanut raw materials are the foundation for processing pure peanut oil. To expand the market, the cooperative has created attractive packaging for its products, promoted them, and connected supply and demand.

By linking OCOP products along the value chain, cooperatives have achieved considerable economic value, farmers have stable product outlets, and the locality has unlocked its strengths in peanut cultivation. The cooperative continues to improve the pure peanut oil value chain, aiming for export.

For Thang Binh, developing OCOP products along the value chain contributes to restructuring the agricultural sector in conjunction with the development of small-scale industries, services, and rural tourism . This is a way to promote comprehensive and sustainable rural economic development.
