Despite having excess body fat, why was the actor of the movie 'Mai' still crowned Mister Vietnam?

On the evening of September 25, the final event of the Mister Vietnam 2024 contest took place in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the final result, contestant Nguyen Manh Lan won the championship and will represent Vietnam to compete in Mister International 2024.

The runner-up positions respectively belonged to Tran Chan Long, Nguyen Phuc Qui Quang, Nguyen Phuc Loc and Dang Anh Duong.

A bodybuilder (who asked to remain anonymous) shared with VietNamNet that champion Nguyen Manh Lan's physique was inferior to the average of contestants. Specifically, he lacked muscle, had excess fat, an unbalanced figure, small arms and shoulders while his stomach, hips and thighs were not firm.

"According to his personal score sheet, Manh Lan's physique has not met any standards and has not shown diligence or seriousness in training," this person said.

In response to the reporter's question: "Why did contestant Nguyen Manh Lan, who has a worse physique than the other contestants, still win the highest position?", the Head of the Jury - Mr. Phuc Nguyen replied: "First of all, thank you for the opinion of the bodybuilder. His professional opinion is very correct. However, we - those who specialize in training and sending contestants to compete internationally - must evaluate comprehensively, of which physique is only one factor."

He added that one of the physical criteria for Mister Vietnam 2024 is "slim fit body" (a balanced, toned figure, low fat percentage and not too focused on muscle building - PV) . Before competing internationally, Manh Lan will receive advice and training support from fitness coaches.

"Having a beautiful body is not easy but not too difficult. People with a foundation can achieve their goal in just 3 months. Manh Lan fits the criteria and has enough time to practice his body as well as cultivate other necessary knowledge," according to the Head of the Jury.

Nguyen Manh Lan was born in 1994, from Hanoi, is currently a model, actor and interpreter. He is 1.92m tall, has measurements of 110-82-105, and speaks English fluently.
