Filipino prodigy stops at Miami Open women's semi-finals after dramatic match

(NLDO) - Young Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala had a dramatic and effortful performance but did not create any surprise against world number 4 tennis player Jessica Pegula.

Entering the semi-finals, Eala played confidently against an experienced opponent like Pegula.

In the first set, the Filipino player started impressively but could not maintain the advantage. Pegula fought back and won the tie-break, closing the set with a score of 7-6.

In the second set, Eala struggled from the start and was trailing 1-3. However, she showed her resilience, equalizing and coming back to win 7-5, bringing the match to a deciding set. However, in the final set, Eala could not maintain her form when facing Pegula's stability.

The world number 4 tennis player used his experience to end the match with a final score of 6-7, 7-5, 3-6, winning a ticket to the final.

Notably, she will officially become the first Filipino tennis player to enter the top 100 of the WTA rankings next week. In addition, Eala had a memorable tournament, affirming her potential in the international arena.

In the final, Pegula will face Aryna Sabalenka. World No. 1 Sabalenka won convincingly 6-2 6-2 against Italian Jasmine Paolini in 71 minutes in the previous semi-final.
