Filipino prodigy stops at Miami Open women's semi-finals after dramatic match

Entering the semi-finals, Eala played confidently against an experienced opponent like Pegula.

In the first set, the Filipino player started impressively but could not maintain the advantage. Pegula fought back and won the tie-break, closing the set with a score of 7-6.

In the second set, Eala struggled from the start and was trailing 1-3. However, she showed her resilience, equalizing and coming back to win 7-5, bringing the match to a deciding set. However, in the final set, Eala could not maintain her form when facing Pegula's stability.

At the age of 19, the Filipino tennis player, ranked 140th in the WTA before participating in the tournament, has risen to 75th in the live WTA rankings with 370 points added when defeating a series of strong opponents who have won Grand Slams such as Iga Swiatek (top 2 WTA), Jelena Ostapenko (top 25) and Madison Keys (top 5).

In the final, Pegula will face Aryna Sabalenka. World No. 1 Sabalenka won convincingly 6-2 6-2 against Italian Jasmine Paolini in 71 minutes in the previous semi-final.
