On the afternoon of October 18, the Ben En National Park Management Board held a consultation conference on the Project " Ecotourism , resort, entertainment in special-use forests of Ben En National Park until 2030, vision to 2045" and Promotion and promotion of tourism at Ben En National Park in 2024.

Ben En tourism potential

Ben En National Park was established under Decision No. 33/CT, dated January 27, 1992 of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now the Prime Minister ). Ben En National Park has a total area of ​​14,305.09 hectares in the two districts of Nhu Xuan and Nhu Thanh. Ben En not only has forest and cave landscapes on limestone mountains; but the highlight of the natural picture here is the nearly 3,000-hectare lake and 21 islands and peninsulas surrounded by three arcs of rocky mountains, earthen mountains and forests.

The islands on the lake are home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, in particular, there are many rare animals listed in the Vietnam Red Book 2007 and IUCN 2013... At the same time, the harmonious combination of the terrain structure of forests, mountains and lakes has created for Ben En a cool microclimate, suitable for resting, sightseeing and entertainment activities.

Along with the outstanding natural resources, in the buffer zone of Ben En National Park there is also a system of historical and cultural relics such as Khe Rong Temple, Phu Sung Temple, Hai Van Resistance Lo Cao relic; traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities. From Ben En, it is possible to connect to relics in the district and province; tourists can visit the lake landscape and biodiversity by boat; camping services, campfires and cultural exchanges are also activities that attract the attention of tourists...

With the attention and direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the support of departments, branches, localities and the help of consulting units, the Project "Ecotourism, resort, entertainment in Ben En National Park special-use forest to 2030, vision to 2045" has been basically shaped. The conference to consult with experts in ecology, community tourism, state management agencies, and travel agencies will contribute to completing the project and soon submitting it to competent authorities for approval.

Striving to become an attractive tourist destination

At the conference, delegates listened to a presentation by a representative of the consulting unit, the Center for Nature Conservation and Development, on the Project “Ecotourism, resort, and entertainment in the special-use forest of Ben En National Park until 2030, with a vision to 2045”. The project’s general goal is for Ben En National Park to become an attractive tourist destination with diverse tourism products and a strong identity; create sustainable revenue, improve the effectiveness of forest management, protection and development, contribute to economic restructuring; promote increased non-state budget revenue, creating a stepping stone for Ben En National Park.

Specific objectives: By 2030, the total number of visitors is estimated to reach over 100,000; over 10,000 overnight visitors (international visitors about 25%). Revenue from tourism services is over 80 billion VND (spending level is about 800,000 VND/visitor); direct labor is over 500 people. Basically complete the tourism infrastructure system, including putting into operation at least 30 accommodation and food service establishments at tourist destinations. Tourism activities at Ben En National Park are connected to all other destinations in the two districts of Nhu Thanh, Nhu Xuan and Thanh Hoa province. Maintain forest cover of over 74% and protect the environment of Muc River Lake.

By 2045, the total number of visitors will reach 800,000, with over 150,000 overnight visitors (30% international visitors). Revenue from tourism services will reach over VND 800 billion at current prices (average spending of VND 1,000,000/visitor); the number of direct employees in the tourism sector will be over 2,000 people at key enterprises, cooperatives and private tourism establishments. Ben En National Park will become a major tourism center of the province with high-quality products, affirming its brand and competitiveness, contributing to building Nhu Thanh district into a tourist town according to Decision No. 1664/QD-UBND, dated May 16, 2022 of the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee.

Orientation to develop key tourism types such as: Ecotourism (camping in the forest, lakeside, cruising on the lake); entertainment tourism (cable car, water park on the lake, games); community tourism (indigenous culture, cuisine); cultural - historical tourism (local scenic relics); resort - health care tourism (resort, spa); sports, adventure tourism (on the lake, in the forest); environmental education (planting trees). The project has identified subdivisions, internal and external tourist spots; connecting tours, routes, spots with neighboring localities such as: Sam Son, Nghi Son, Lam Son, and neighboring tourist areas in the two districts of Nhu Thanh, Nhu Xuan... At the same time, orientation to select and explain tourist spots.

At the conference, delegates focused on assessing the general conditions and current status of tourism activities in Ben En National Park special-use forest, giving comments and suggestions on the Project "Ecotourism, resort, entertainment in Ben En National Park special-use forest until 20230, vision to 2045", as well as proposing solutions to promote and boost tourism in Ben En, contributing to making Ben En an attractive and developed destination.

Delegates representing state management agencies, ecotourism and community tourism experts, the Provincial Tourism Association, travel companies, and the Management Board of Cuc Phuong and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Parks suggested that Ben En National Park should continue to improve its infrastructure, promote communication strategies, and increase service experiences; exploit current potentials, aiming to develop green tourism; focus on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, tourism needs community participation, and improving livelihoods; raise awareness of the environment and biodiversity for tourists...

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Van Thuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa province, thanked the delegates for their contributions to the completion of the project "Ecotourism, resort, entertainment in the special-use forest of Ben En National Park until 2030, vision to 2045".
