
Briefly presenting the Report on the implementation of national gender equality goals in 2024, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha stated that the Government has directed ministries, ministerial-level agencies, government agencies, central agencies of mass organizations, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to focus on implementing a number of key tasks in 2024 such as: continuing to review and study to perfect institutions, policies and laws on gender equality; organizing the implementation of strategies, programs and projects approved by competent authorities; promoting propaganda, dissemination and education of policies and laws on gender equality; mobilizing and allocating resources; improving the capacity and effectiveness of state management on gender equality; promoting international cooperation in gender equality work.

The field of gender equality continues to receive attention and direction from the leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly , Government and Prime Minister. The National Assembly focuses on examining and integrating gender equality issues in the proposal for the annual law and ordinance development program and in the draft laws and ordinances submitted to the National Assembly for approval. The Government has actively and proactively directed ministries, branches and localities to implement strategies, programs and projects on gender equality. Ministries, branches and localities have developed plans and implemented strategies and programs in accordance with the specific conditions of localities and units.
Vietnam's gender equality indicators have improved compared to previous years. According to the World Economic Forum's 2024 Global Gender Gap Report, Vietnam ranks 72nd out of 146 countries (up 11 places compared to 2022), with improvements in indicators of women's economic participation and education.
By the end of 2024, 13/20 targets had reached and exceeded the target set for 2025, 1/20 targets had partially reached the target set for 2030, 2 targets were striving to reach the target by 2025, of which 9 targets achieved better results than in 2023...
The report also pointed out a number of difficulties such as: the state management apparatus for gender equality at all levels is still limited in number; the staff working on gender equality is often rotated and unstable, affecting the effectiveness of gender equality implementation; the regular funding sources of ministries, branches and localities for gender equality work are still modest...
At the meeting, opinions highly appreciated the draft Report and results of implementing national goals on gender equality in 2024; at the same time, it was suggested to continue reviewing and clarifying some contents on funding and disbursement for gender equality work, results of implementing national goals on gender equality in each field, coordination work in implementing gender equality goals;...

Overview of the meeting
According to the delegate, the number of staff working on gender equality has increased compared to 2023 but has not been specialized, which has somewhat affected the quality of work. Therefore, it is necessary to have a specific assessment of the training and improvement of skills and qualifications of staff performing this task in the past. Especially in the coming time, after streamlining the organizational apparatus, the Government needs to have appropriate solutions and directions to ensure continuity in performing the task.
Regarding the issue of gender equality mainstreaming in legal documents, there are opinions that this content has not been really concerned and fully implemented; there are no specific statistics on legal documents that have been assessed on this issue.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy suggested that more attention should be paid to the issue of population aging in the coming time; assessing the coordination between ministries and branches in implementing the goals; analyzing and clarifying the causes of shortcomings and limitations in implementing the set targets. At the same time, it is necessary to review and supplement annual data; clarify the specific responsibilities of relevant agencies in implementing the national goal of gender equality.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Society also noted the need to arrange enough specialized staff to work on gender equality, continue training and improve capacity to meet the implementation of tasks; allocate funding for activities and contents on gender equality; review and evaluate the implementation of the Strategy by 2025; adjust the targets set out in the Strategy to ensure practical effectiveness and feasibility, in accordance with the practical situation; have specific solutions and directions to implement the targets...
