The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thom (Bach Thach hamlet, Tan Kim commune) is one of 40 households receiving support for breeding cows in Phu Binh district to participate in the Project to Support the Development of Breeding Cow Production under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024. According to her, like many other households, she is regularly trained by agricultural and agricultural extension officers, providing specific guidance on knowledge and skills in raising cows to take care of her "industry".

“After receiving the cows, I was regularly instructed by the staff on how to care for and raise breeding cows. If I had any problems with cow care, I would ask and receive detailed instructions. Thanks to that, my family’s cows are always healthy and grow and develop well,” Ms. Thom added.

As one of 20 poor and near-poor households in Tan Khanh commune (Phu Binh) receiving support for breeding cows, Ta Van Mao's family was extremely careful and meticulous in learning about cow care techniques. Immediately after receiving the breeding cows, he immediately applied the knowledge he had been trained in to raising cattle (cleaning the barn, growing grass for cattle feed, etc.). During the raising process, Mao also regularly called and contacted the staff of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to ask how to handle the situation when the cows showed unusual signs.

“My family is very excited to have received support for cow breeding, this is a great opportunity for economic development. Thanks to the enthusiastic and timely guidance of the provincial agricultural extension officers, I was able to handle the situation as soon as the cow showed strange signs. The cow is growing healthily, and has now gained more than 30kg compared to when we received it,” Mr. Mao said excitedly.

It is known that in 2024, implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025 (Sub-project 1 of Project 3 on supporting production in the agricultural sector), the Thai Nguyen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has implemented 2 projects to support breeding cows. Accordingly, 74 poor and near-poor households in Van Yen, Binh Thuan, Phu Lac (Dai Tu) and Tan Khanh, Tan Kim (Phu Binh) communes were supported with 74 Sind crossbred cows for breeding, with a total cost of over 2 billion VND.

To enhance the practical effectiveness of the project, before handing over breeding cows, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized for households to select breeding cows and train in breeding techniques; participate in learning practical experiences. Notably, since receiving the cows, households have received dedicated guidance from staff of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and local government officials.

40 crossbred Sind cows for breeding were handed over by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to 40 poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty households in Tan Khanh and Tan Kim communes (Phu Binh district).

Accordingly, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has assigned staff to monitor supported households in each commune. In addition to providing support via phone, staff also go to each commune and household to "hold hands" to guide them on how to build barns; properly clean feeding and drinking troughs; how to use disinfectants to destroy pathogens around; detect estrus and determine the appropriate time for breeding cows...

Sharing about this, Mr. Hoang Cong Hop, an officer of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, said: “The acquisition of technical knowledge in breeding cattle through training courses is still limited, so we have to actively guide people in the breeding process. In the first month of implementation, many days I received dozens of calls asking for advice when my family's livestock showed strange signs.”

The objective of the project to support breeding cows is to transfer technical advances in breeding cows to bring high economic efficiency, creating conditions for poor, near-poor and newly escaped-poverty households in Thai Nguyen province to have long-term livelihoods, thereby contributing to increasing income, improving life, escaping poverty, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, contributing to completing the goal of building new rural areas in the area.
