According to Thailand's National Water and Climate Data Center (NWCDC), water levels in Thailand's major reservoirs are alarmingly low, with only 19% usable for domestic use, agriculture , and ecosystem protection.
The NWCDC report indicated that the situation in western Thailand is the most worrying, as only 13% of the water in reservoirs is currently usable, the lowest compared to 34% in the south and 30% in the east.
The Chao Phraya River basin needs 12 billion cubic meters of water during the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season, but the total water volume in Thailand's four main reservoirs—Bhumibol, Sirikit, Pasak Jolasid, and Kwae Noi Bamrung Dan—only provides 4.551 billion cubic meters, meaning there is a shortfall of 7.449 billion cubic meters.
