Khau Lan Waterfall is located in a valley in Quyet Tien Commune, Quan Ba District, Ha Giang Province. This place has a wild, majestic beauty that few people know about.
The majestic and pristine Khau Lan waterfall, surrounded by lush green tropical forests, is a place that not many tourists know about and has not been exploited by travel agencies. This waterfall is located in Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district, Ha Giang province, more than 40km from Ha Giang city center.
From the city center, visitors travel to the center of Quyet Tien commune, then continue 10km to reach the trekking point down to the foot of the waterfall.
The photo series of Khau Lan waterfall was recorded by Mr. San Tai Chi (29 years old, often called Ta Ba Lo), a young man working in tourism in Ha Giang. In 2019, after graduating from the National Economics University, Mr. Tai returned to his hometown to work on a picnic tourism project, accompanying ethnic minority staff in Ha Giang. The photo series attracted attention on social networks, causing many people to contact Mr. Chi to seek information.
According to Mr. Chi, the trekking distance to the waterfall is only about 1km, equivalent to 15-20 minutes of travel, not too tiring. The path leading to the foot of the waterfall is through the forest, so the air is fresh and pleasant, visitors can both trek and enjoy the scenery. The path has also been cleared by the locals and made convenient steps.
Tourists should note that because the waterfall has not been located on the navigation app, if you travel on your own, you should regularly ask locals to avoid getting lost.
According to Mr. Chi's estimate, the waterfall is about 20m high and more than 10m wide. The waterfall has a large flow of water, rushing down into the reservoir at the foot of the waterfall, creating white foam. On both sides of the waterfall are ancient trees and dense vines, creating a wild and unique scene.
Interestingly, the lake at the foot of the waterfall is not only fresh and cool, but also has small areas for visitors to set up tents and have simple meals while playing and bathing in the waterfall. However, these spaces are not too wide and are located near the stream, so visitors should not camp overnight.
The ideal time to trek and bathe in Khau Lan waterfall is from June to October. Visitors can go with a local porter to ensure safety. In addition, you should bring insect repellent and avoid rainy days.
According to Mr. Tai, when coming to the area near Khau Lan waterfall, in addition to admiring the waterfall, visitors can combine exploring Quyet Tien commune, home to many ethnic minority communities such as Dao, Nhung, Tay and Bo Y people. This is one of the ethnic communities with a particularly small population in Ha Giang with many beautiful features in culture, language, architecture, costumes and cuisine. Visitors can watch bronze drum dances, listen to folk songs, and enjoy specialties such as black humpbacked banh chung, croissant cakes, and corn wine made with fermented leaves.
