Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion for us to reflect on ourselves and realize that happiness is not about having everything, but about knowing how to share with those around us.

Teacher Tong Thu Lan (Homeroom teacher of class 6A4, Kim Giang Secondary School, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi ) discusses with her students about sharing and kindness during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for people to gather with family and friends, enjoy delicious mooncakes, and for children to excitedly carry lanterns and gaze at the moon. However, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival is very different because there are still people facing difficulties and losses due to natural disasters, especially those in flood-affected areas in the North.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs , this year, Mid-Autumn Festival programs and events have been shortened, focusing on giving gifts to disadvantaged children, especially in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, border regions, islands, and areas affected by natural disasters and floods.

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival was filled with emotion, with simple activities and many small gifts from students sent to children in flood-affected areas. Many provinces, cities, organizations, and schools decided to suspend recreational activities to allocate funds to support those affected by Typhoon No. 3. In the context of people suffering severely from the floods, the Mid-Autumn Festival is an opportunity to show compassion and a spirit of sharing.

After the devastating storm has passed, leaving behind heartbreaking scenes of loss, help from the community and charitable organizations becomes incredibly important. Activities such as donations, gift-giving, and volunteer work not only help alleviate the suffering of those affected but also convey a message of community solidarity and responsibility towards one another. Small, simple acts can bring joy and hope to those in need.

"In the context of our compatriots being severely affected by storms and floods, the Mid-Autumn Festival is an opportunity to show compassion and a spirit of sharing."

Indeed, we are all heartbroken by the sight of houses submerged in water, homes destroyed, children huddled in corners, many unable to attend school, and many students unable to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival this year... The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a time for fun, but also an opportunity to show love and care for those less fortunate. Every gift sent to flood-affected areas carries a warm message of sharing the difficulties with our compatriots, and is also an opportunity to educate children about compassion.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, let's not forget the important task of educating the younger generation about compassion. Children are the future of the country, and educating them about compassion, sharing, and responsibility to the community is extremely important in creating kind-hearted people in the future. Let's create opportunities for children to participate in volunteer activities, from donating old clothes and books to participating in charity fundraising events. In this way, children will understand that helping others is not only a duty, but also a part of each of our lives, because "giving is receiving."

In addition, parents and teachers should encourage children to show compassion through small, everyday actions, such as helping friends, sharing toys, or simply listening to and caring for others. These actions will help children build positive habits and mindsets about helping and sharing.

"Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion to sow seeds of kindness in the hearts of children. Through practical and meaningful activities, we can help children develop good qualities and become useful citizens for society."

Furthermore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also an opportunity for us to reflect on ourselves and realize that happiness is not about having everything, but about sharing with those around us. Kindness and empathy are noble values that we need to cherish, preserve, and promote.

However, educating children about compassion is a long process that requires perseverance and continuous practice. The family is the first and most important environment for shaping a child's character. Create a warm and loving family atmosphere so that children feel safe and happy. Consider this an opportunity to sow seeds of kindness in children's hearts. Through practical and meaningful activities, children can develop good qualities and become useful citizens for society.

This year, in his Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to children nationwide, General Secretary and President To Lam wrote: "I sincerely hope that each Mid-Autumn Festival will bring you a happier, more fulfilling, and more meaningful celebration, both materially and spiritually, thanks to the care of your families, schools, and society... This year's Mid-Autumn Festival is not complete because natural disasters have caused severe consequences for many families, villages, and communes. Many children have unfortunately lost their lives; many have lost loved ones, homes, and are living in extremely difficult circumstances. I send my deepest condolences to the relatives and families of the children who are victims of the storms and floods, and I hope that all of us will bravely overcome this pain and loss..."

Let the Mid-Autumn Festival be more than just a holiday; let it be an occasion to awaken the spirit of unity, sharing, and compassion in each of us. Through practical and meaningful actions, we can make this Mid-Autumn Festival even more special, as the lyrics of the song "A Round Trip Around Vietnam" suggest: "Vietnamese people, with their brown skin and dark eyes, are fragrant and indomitable like lotus blossoms." Furthermore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also an opportunity for us to recognize and practice the values of compassion in life. Through this, we can not only create a better living environment but also build a future generation full of compassion and responsibility.
