On the evening of June 8, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Duong Minh Chau district, Tay Ninh province, said that the area had just recorded 6 cases of food poisoning suspected to be caused by eating wild mushrooms.

The victims all lived in Phuoc Ninh commune, Duong Minh Chau district, including: Tran Thanh Hong (31 years old), Ho Thi Kim Thoa (35 years old), Ngo Quoc Bao (42 years old), Nguyen Phi Long (28 years old), Nguyen Chi Tam (26 years old) and Tran Van Gap (64 years old).

Initial information, on June 6, the victims went into the forest in Duong Minh Chau district to pick chicken egg mushrooms, goose egg mushrooms, including a type of black-gray mushroom (unknown species), then processed it for family and friends to eat. At about 1:00 a.m. on June 7, the above cases showed signs of vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, and diarrhea many times, so the family took them to the district medical center for emergency treatment. Currently, the health of 6 people is stable, of which 2 people were allowed to go home for monitoring.

On June 8, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan, Deputy Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases, Cho Ray Hospital, said that the 3 cases of mushroom poisoning transferred from Tay Ninh were members of the same family (including husband, wife and daughter); in which the husband, Mr. CHH (44 years old), died, and the wife, Ms. Kh.THT (44 years old), is in critical condition.

Previously, on June 7, SGGP Newspaper reported that 3 cases of food poisoning due to eating wild mushrooms (unknown species) occurred in Tan Binh Commune, Tan Bien District, Tay Ninh Province. All 3 people had symptoms of vomiting so they bought medicine to take but it did not help, so relatives took them to Tay Ninh General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred them to Cho Ray Hospital.

The SGGP newspaper on June 6 also had an article warning about “The hidden danger of toxins from natural mushrooms”, reflecting that many people have confused edible natural mushrooms with those containing dangerous toxins, leading to many serious poisoning cases.
