Quang Tri is a locality with potential in developing rural tourism models with many places that can be developed and recognized as tourist destinations. However, to exploit this type of tourism, there needs to be a comprehensive development policy, thereby encouraging people and businesses to invest in exploitation.

Keeping up with the trend of high-tech agricultural development, in early 2019, Ms. Tran Thu Trang, from Vinh Giang commune, Vinh Linh district, decided to research the market and prepare the necessary conditions to deploy the construction of a high-tech agricultural production model in greenhouses in Dong Soi village, Kim Thach commune, Vinh Linh district.
The model is named Dfarm Quang Tri, completed in 2020 on an area of 3 hectares, including a system of 10 greenhouses covering an area of 5,120 m2 . Currently, the farm chooses key crops that are popular in the market, including white pearl melon, cantaloupe, and watermelon for production. In addition, the farm also grows other crops such as green apples, black-skinned cantaloupe, and various vegetables...
Ms. Thu Trang said: “In addition to the agricultural production goal, we are developing a tourist attraction to experience the activities of planting and harvesting farm products as well as enjoying dishes made from farm products and local seafood. Organizing services according to the requests of visitors to experience, initially forming links with schools to visit and experience according to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training. At the same time, we have built an information page to promote the image to tourists inside and outside the province”.
The Gio An ancient well system in Gio Linh district is an attractive destination, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists to visit recently. This community tourism destination has been invested quite thoroughly with a system of asphalted and concreted roads to 14 ancient wells, convenient for travel.
The system of ancient wells, festivals and local customs such as Thuong Neu, Khai Ha, Dai Tu, historical and cultural stories such as Ong Voi Cave, Long Phuoc Pagoda ... bring curiosity and desire to learn of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience. According to the assessment of the functional sector, this is a place with potential and advantages to build, develop and propose to recognize rural tourism areas.
The results of the survey and assessment of the current status of rural tourism sites in the new rural construction in the province by the functional sectors show that tourism activities have initially created jobs, promoted the consumption of agricultural products and goods, increased income, improved the economic conditions of people in rural areas, exploited the potentials and advantages of culture, landscape, ecological environment and agriculture of rural areas. Technical infrastructure serving tourism has been invested in and built, traditional cultural activities have been restored and maintained.
However, the development of rural tourism in the province still has some difficulties and limitations. That is, rural tourism models are still spontaneous, and some places have not yet formed subjects to organize and implement services.
Tourism activities are not systematic and do not have diverse products to meet the needs of tourists for real experiences and shopping, so the efficiency is not high. There is no model for developing agricultural and rural tourism associated with OCOP products...
The functional sectors have agreed to select 4 models including: Dfarm Quang Tri high-tech organic agriculture combined eco-tourism site (Vinh Linh), Gio An ancient well system community tourism site, Gio Linh, Chenh Venh village community tourism site, Huong Phung commune (Huong Hoa), Ru Linh eco-tourism site, Hoa Binh village, Hien Thanh commune (Vinh Linh) to plan to support the construction and recognition of rural tourism products in the coming time.
Agricultural and rural tourism is in great need of state support through mechanisms and policies such as synchronous investment in infrastructure, credit incentives, human resource training, digital transformation, and diversified investment from other social resources.
In addition to the locations surveyed and selected for support by relevant agencies, localities need to continue reviewing the potential and advantages of developing agricultural and rural tourism in order to build models that are suitable to the goals of the rural tourism development program and local advantages.
To develop rural tourism sustainably, it is necessary to focus on building destinations associated with regional identity and characteristics, with high added value, focusing on quality. In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to preserving, restoring and developing craft villages, restoring production models of specialties and traditional products... to serve tourists through practical experiences.
Localities need to soon have plans for rural tourism as well as specific policies to support the development of this sector. Relevant functional sectors need to increase support for promotion, communication, tourism promotion, human resource training, professional guidance, and connection with travel businesses to build tours.
Pay attention to improving the quality of training, fostering and coaching human resources for rural tourism. Promote the role of the people and the community as the main subjects, promote the active and proactive participation of enterprises, cooperatives and economic organizations through effective tourism value chain linkages.
