On June 29, Doosan Vina Company (Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai) signed a memorandum of understanding on "Cooperation in developing offshore wind power in Vietnam" with Marubeni Corporation (Japan).

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Kim Hyo Tae - General Director of Doosan Vina - emphasized that he will actively participate in implementing the Vietnamese Government's commitment at the COP26 Conference on net zero emissions by 2050.

This memorandum of understanding, together with the memorandum of understanding signed with the world's leading wind power group, Ørsted (Denmark), is the foundation for Doosan Vina to enter the renewable energy market.

"Doosan Vina is currently shifting its focus and business portfolio towards environmental protection. This is the growth driver in the coming time," said Mr. Kim Hyo Tae, adding that Vietnam has abundant wind, sunshine and sea resources, with great potential for developing renewable energy, especially offshore wind power.

Mr. Seiji Kawamura - Director of the Asia-Pacific Power Market Business of Marubeni Corporation - said that offshore wind energy will play a very important role in Marubeni's strategy. With 50 years of experience in the power industry in Vietnam, Marubeni hopes to contribute to the Vietnamese economy and the Government's policies.

Following the signing, Doosan Vina and Marubeni will jointly study the feasibility and potential for cooperation in Vietnam. Doosan Vina plans to manufacture single foundations for wind turbines and other components for offshore wind farms at its 100-hectare industrial complex in Dung Quat Economic Zone.

Doosan and Marubeni are strategic partners in the power business in the Asia-Pacific region. The two companies have successfully built the Nghi Son 2 BOT power project, in which Marubeni is a member of the investor consortium, and Doosan is the general contractor.
