Establishing a foundation for thinking about intellectual property.

Most students had never been exposed to knowledge about intellectual property, but they indicated they were all ready to embrace this new knowledge. This shows that intellectual property education in schools is still a new issue, not yet given systematic and regular attention and implementation.

To develop a comprehensive and sustainable national intellectual property system, intellectual property education for young generations, especially high school students, is one of the necessary tasks that many countries have effectively implemented, gradually forming an intellectual property culture within the community and contributing to building a civilized and advanced society.

In recent years, the Intellectual Property Office ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) has collaborated with many organizations and schools to promote the dissemination of knowledge and enhance capacity in intellectual property for the community in general and young people in particular through various forms. However, intellectual property education for young people, especially students, is still a new issue and has not been implemented systematically and regularly.

A survey by the Intellectual Property Office of 800 students from various schools revealed that 74% of primary school students and 87% of secondary school students said they had never been exposed to knowledge about intellectual property. However, the majority indicated a willingness to embrace this new knowledge. Dang Hoang Gia Bao, a 6th-grade student at Giap Bat Secondary School (Hoang Mai District, Hanoi ), is one example. With his "Dream Farm" model made from recycled materials, he not only won an award at the city's Youth and Children's Innovation Competition but also contributed to spreading the spirit of creativity in schools.

In current educational programs, STEM and STEAM training activities in schools lack content related to intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship.

According to experts, although intellectual property is a crucial area in the knowledge economy, awareness of its value within the educational community and society remains limited. This area is still a gap in schools, lacking adequate attention, integration, and inclusion in the curriculum. A large proportion of teachers receive little training, lack in-depth education on intellectual property, and have insufficient teaching materials, reducing the effectiveness of knowledge transfer to students.

In current educational programs, STEM and STEAM training activities in schools lack content related to intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship. This limits students' opportunities to access practical knowledge in these fields, despite their immense creative potential.

According to Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha, Principal of Giap Bat Secondary School (Hoang Mai, Hanoi), intellectual property plays an important role in shaping students' creative thinking, but this content has not yet been fully integrated into the curriculum.

Currently, Vietnam has approximately 23 million students, a potential force in spreading awareness about innovation and intellectual property, contributing to the formation of a future generation of creative citizens. In reality, the education sector has implemented many activities to ignite students' passion for creativity, such as painting competitions, STEM and STEAM creative playgrounds, etc., creating a good foundation for integrating intellectual property education and helping students understand the value of intellectual products they create themselves.

Ms. Hoang Thuy Nga, Principal of Tan Dinh Primary School (Hoang Mai, Hanoi), said that with the support of the Intellectual Property Office and related units, the pilot program of teaching intellectual property knowledge in schools has yielded positive results. However, there are still many difficulties in officially implementing this content into regular lessons due to the lack of specific regulations from the management agency.

According to Mr. Tran Giang Nam, Head of the Department of General Education (Ministry of Education and Training), to promote intellectual property education in schools, the Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training, is developing specific action programs and incorporating this content into the key tasks of the school year in general education schools. At the same time, the education sector needs to allocate reasonable learning time, train teachers, invest in facilities, and utilize support from international organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to foster an intellectual property culture among today's young generation in Vietnam.
