Many advantages

The development of modern society has placed many new requirements on the use of construction materials (CM) including structural materials, covering, roofing, interior partitions and finishing materials to keep up with the ideas of architects and design engineers.

Up to now, along with the development of science and technology, construction materials have been increasingly researched and many types with new superior properties have been produced. In particular, research and development of environmentally friendly construction materials, such as self-healing concrete, green concrete, ultra-high performance concrete; artificial paving stones... these materials are not only highly durable but also minimize the impact on the environment.

Next, construction materials that apply nanotechnology in production, when allowing the manipulation and use of materials at the molecular scale, increase and create special properties of materials, help reduce the size of devices to extremely small sizes. Many fields have applied nano in production and brought high economic efficiency such as the production of water-based paint or additives for cement and concrete.

In construction, 3D printing technology has been applied to build concrete structures with high precision, any shape without the use of molds for quick construction time. This technology helps to minimize material waste and save labor costs. At the same time, 3D printing is used to create detailed architectural models, helping contractors and architects easily visualize and adjust the design before construction.

Materials for interior partitions (partition walls, partitions...) also tend to shift from building walls with bricks to other types of materials such as hollow concrete panels, compact panels, fiber cement flat panels, glass, gypsum panels, sound-absorbing mineral fiber panels... These are materials considered to be the trend for future construction projects with many advantages such as shortening construction time, flexibility in use as well as enhancing the aesthetics of the structure, while also helping to save construction area, soundproofing, and heat insulation better than traditional construction materials.

Limited

Director of the Institute of Construction Materials (Ministry of Construction) Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep said that although the construction materials industry has achieved many achievements and made great strides, contributing significantly to the development of the construction industry and the economy. However, the construction materials manufacturing industry still has many limitations in investment and development.

Many production sectors are mainly invested in small and medium scale, especially brick and clay tile production facilities, stone and construction sand mining... so the application of science and technology in production is still difficult.

The level of equipment manufacturing in our country is still low compared to other countries in the world. Most equipment manufacturing facilities have not been able to produce a synchronous equipment chain system or can produce but the cost is high so they cannot compete with equipment manufacturing companies in the world.

In addition, domestic construction materials depend heavily on input factors such as mineral resources, technology, energy and capital. The balance of supply and demand of product types is still inadequate, leading to surplus and under-exploitation of enterprises' production capacity. The use of alternative raw materials and fuels and the promotion of circular economy in the production of construction materials have not received due investment attention.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hiep, the implementation of restructuring small and micro construction material production enterprises into industrial-scale production units with sufficient potential and conditions to apply science and technology in production to bring about high efficiency and economic value, and at the same time, meet the conditions to participate in the global product supply chain is still slow. The support policy for enterprises when implementing the transformation is still unclear, and there are no specific criteria for the type of enterprise.

Director of Phenikaa chemical factory, Dr. Ha Thu Huong said that in the context of instability and geopolitics, mastering raw material sources is an important factor for sustainable production development, while helping businesses optimize production processes, minimize waste and use recycled materials effectively.

This not only reduces the impact on the environment but also creates economic value for the business. Currently, Phenikaa is the only stone manufacturing enterprise in the world with a factory producing raw materials for polyester resin and cristobalite - 2 raw materials that account for over 95% of quartz-based artificial stone products.

According to Dr. Ha Thu Huong, green growth is considered an important strategy for sustainable development, minimizing negative impacts on the environment and harmoniously combining socio-economic and environmental aspects.
