On December 18, information from the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board (MRB) said: Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son signed Decision No. 1578/QD-TTg approving the adjustment of the investment policy for the Hanoi urban railway construction project, line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section (Line 2.1).
The project has a total route length of 11.5km, including 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated, 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations. Regarding vehicles, there are 10 trains with double-track railway of 1,435mm gauge and a Depot area at Xuan Dinh - Bac Tu Liem with an area of 17.5ha.
The total preliminary investment is 35,588 billion VND; of which, ODA capital borrowed from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under special loan conditions for economic partners (STEP) is 29,672 billion VND. The counterpart capital of Hanoi city budget is 5,916 billion VND. The project implementation period is from 2009 to 2031.

In addition, the project also adjusted the elevated section from 8.5km to 8.9km and the underground section from 3km to 2.6km. The reason is to change the transition plan from the overpass to the tunnel, adjust the range between the elevated and underground sections; reduce from 14 trains to 10.
After the investment policy adjustment is approved, the project will re-mobilize general consultants to adjust the project for the Hanoi People's Committee to approve and implement the project from 2025.
The Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao urban railway line forms an important backbone, connecting the inner city area, Noi Bai International Airport and the northern urban area of Hanoi, including: Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao, Tran Hung Dao - Thuong Dinh, Noi Bai - Nam Thang Long urban railway lines.
Not only bringing benefits to transportation and the environment, this urban railway also plays an important role in developing tourism and urban architecture in the capital.
The planning of the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao urban railway line combining radial and belt lines not only increases connectivity but also helps disperse passengers away from the central area, shortens travel time and optimizes the efficiency of the entire system.
This is an important step to build a modern, synchronous and sustainable transport network for the capital, contributing to meeting the requirements of socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of the people./.
