In previous years, eliminating dilapidated housing in a mountainous province like Ha Giang, which consistently had one of the highest poverty rates in the country, was a distant dream. Today, however, the dream of living in a decent, sturdy house is gradually becoming a reality for every family in this northernmost region of Vietnam. Following the government's directive to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing nationwide, the entire political system in Ha Giang province has joined forces, combining resources allocated from the central government with the efforts of the Fatherland Front and other mass organizations.

As of February, Ha Giang province had started construction on 2,491 houses, including 2,296 new houses and 195 houses under repair. Of these, 28 houses were for people with meritorious service, 238 houses were from national target programs, and 2,225 houses were from the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses according to the Prime Minister 's directive. 1,739 houses have been completed and put into use.

For a province facing many difficulties like Ha Giang, support from the central government always plays a crucial role. However, to meet practical needs and ensure that people in difficult circumstances have decent, durable homes, government support needs to be coordinated with resources from the community. After receiving 265.5 billion VND in support funds, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province allocated over 126 billion VND in four installments to the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in districts and cities for implementation. This funding has "awakened" the active participation of the community. In addition to the support funds, the province mobilized forces and people to contribute over 64,190 man-days (including over 11,260 man-days from the armed forces). In particular, along with mobilizing officers and soldiers from various units to contribute labor for construction, the Border Guard of Ha Giang province has also mobilized support for 36 houses in border communes with a budget of over 2.1 billion VND. As a result, some districts have made rapid progress, such as Bac Quang, Bac Me, and Meo Vac...

Vi Xuyen District is home to many impoverished families, with poverty persisting from generation to generation. For many, a decent, sturdy home remains a distant dream. The family of Mrs. Chau Thi Tung, residing in Khuoi Kha village (Ngoc Linh commune), is one such example. At over 70 years old, her health is failing, and she suffers from chronic illnesses, preventing her from doing strenuous work to earn a living. Furthermore, Mrs. Tung has to care for two orphaned grandchildren. Life is extremely difficult; her house is dilapidated, but she lacks the means to repair it. Despite receiving 60 million VND in government assistance for a new house, construction is proving challenging due to her family's lack of matching funds.

The Fatherland Front and mass organizations quickly stepped in to address this difficulty. Mr. Luc Duc Thien, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ngoc Linh commune, said: "The local Party committee and government have joined hands to help Mrs. Tung's family. In addition, they have directed various departments and mass organizations to participate in supporting the construction. The Women's Union of the commune also coordinated with the Women's Union of the village to support the family in building a vegetable garden so they can focus on production and economic development… Thanks to the community's involvement, Mrs. Tung has been able to build a spacious house. The house, nearly 60 square meters in size, was built with love, support, and sharing from mass organizations at all levels and the local government."

Besides resources from the central government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province is also actively building and disbursing the "For the Poor" Fund, focusing on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. Mr. Vang Seo Con, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province, said that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is one of the important policies aimed at improving the quality of life for people and contributing to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the province. The people of ethnic minorities in Ha Giang province are delighted to receive the attention of the Party, the State, the Fatherland Front, and other organizations. Having a new house is a motivation for them to strive for a better life.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province has allocated 17.77 billion VND from the "For the Poor" Fund to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the province during the fourth phase of 2025. This amount will be used to support 305 disadvantaged households in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. Of these, 286 households will receive support of 60 million VND per household for new house construction, and 19 households will receive support of 30 million VND per household for house repairs. In addition, 5 households under national target programs will also receive supplementary funding of 16 million VND per household for new construction and 8 million VND per household for repairs. Districts with the highest number of households receiving support include Xin Man (85 households), Bac Quang (71 households), Yen Minh (50 households), and Meo Vac (31 households). The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province requests relevant units to ensure that funds are used for the intended purpose, transparently, and promptly.
