The workshop was organized by the Vietnam Craft Village Association on November 5 in Hai Duong. More than 100 representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade and craft villages producing handicrafts from northern provinces and cities attended the workshop.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country currently has over 5,400 craft villages and villages with crafts, attracting over 13 million workers, bringing in an export value of over 1.7 billion USD/year. Vietnamese handicrafts have strong vitality, but limitations in design, model, and packaging are weaknesses, reducing the value of the products, making it difficult to meet the increasing demands of customers.
In general, handicrafts are classified as products with great export potential and high profit margins. Therefore, it is necessary to change the mindset about design, packaging, and packaging to clearly distinguish between product quality and design quality, increase product value, and create strengths for Vietnamese handicrafts in export markets.
According to the Vietnam Craft Village Association, many years ago, our country's handicrafts were favored by foreign markets because of their novelty, but now their appeal has significantly decreased due to the lack of changes in design. Currently, up to 90% of Vietnam's handicraft products are based on designs from foreign customers and use their labels because we lack creativity in product design.
Packaging not only contains, protects, arranges, displays, introduces and increases the value of the product. To have beautiful designs that suit customers' tastes, designers and manufacturers need to coordinate more closely. Enterprises and artisans should form joint ventures and cooperate with art design training institutions; regularly organize creative competitions to create new designs that meet customers' criteria and requirements.
