DTO - On August 24, in Lang Son City, the Plant Protection Department held a national online conference on strengthening state management of growing area codes and packaging facilities.

To date, the country has 6,883 codes for growing areas and 1,588 codes for agricultural product packaging facilities granted. These codes focus mainly on major export products such as mango, dragon fruit, longan, rice, durian. China, the United States, New Zealand, Australia... are the markets with the largest number of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities. In particular, the Mekong Delta is the leading region in terms of the number of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities.
For Dong Thap, the whole province currently has 42,867 hectares of fruit trees, with an output of 403,069 tons. By August 2023, the whole province will have 510 fruit growing areas (area of 13,388 hectares) with growing area codes to serve the domestic and export markets; the area certified by VietGAP is 703.07 hectares (mainly mango, longan, citrus, plum, dragon fruit, durian, jackfruit, etc.).
However, recently, the Plant Protection Department has continuously received notifications from importing countries regarding non-compliance with plant quarantine (KTV) requirements and chemical residues exceeding regulations. These notifications also require Vietnam to have strict control measures on KTV objects and residual plant protection chemicals in agricultural products of export shipments...
To improve the effectiveness of management and supervision of codes for growing areas and agricultural product packaging facilities for export, at the conference, delegates proposed a number of solutions such as: localities should pay attention to leadership, direction and allocation of sufficient resources to carry out the work of granting, managing and supervising codes for growing areas and packaging facilities for export; diversify training and propaganda forms about codes towards reaching each target group; apply information technology in management and provide information on codes for growing areas and packaging facilities to facilitate inspection, supervision and traceability; growing areas and packaging facilities need to strictly comply with production processes and comply with the requirements of importing countries...
