At the meeting, business representatives introduced the business and operations situation in Brunei, emphasizing their determination to overcome difficulties, including the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, to persist, gradually recover and expand business activities in the area.

Some businesses have actively connected and brought Vietnamese products to the Brunei market such as fruits, coffee, handicrafts, textiles, etc. Although the turnover is not large, it has made a practical contribution to trade between the two countries and promoted the image of Vietnam in the area.

Enterprises made many recommendations and proposals on strengthening cooperation and association to improve business efficiency as well as the role and voice of the Vietnamese business community in the area. Some ideas were proposed, discussed and received support such as strengthening coordination in organizing promotional activities, introducing and supplying products and services of Vietnamese enterprises; exchanging experiences and information on business opportunities in the area and supporting the removal of difficulties in terms of conditions of residence, business and employment; promoting connections and mutual support between enterprises and the Vietnamese community in Brunei; and regular meetings between enterprises and the Embassy.

Ambassador Tran Anh Vu shared with businesses about the progress in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Brunei, especially the official visit to Brunei by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (February 2023) which opened up opportunities for bilateral cooperation in priority areas such as oil and gas, energy, Halal, tourism, etc. with some specific results achieved in recent times. After declining in 2023, Vietnam - Brunei trade turnover has shown signs of recovery, with two-way trade in January 2024 increasing by 2 times compared to the same period in 2023.

Ambassador Tran Anh Vu affirmed that Vietnamese enterprises play the role of a trade bridge and contribute to promoting the image, growth potential and cooperation of Vietnam with Brunei partners. Some enterprises such as PVD, HADUCO ... have stepped up their access to the Brunei market and won important service contracts in the area. Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, although still limited in quantity, business scale and significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, have made great efforts to stay afloat and gradually recover and grow in business in the area.

In the coming time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei will support and assist the efforts of Vietnamese enterprises to strengthen their connections and cooperation towards becoming a more dynamic, united and effective business community in the area. The Embassy will continue to recommend that the authorities of the two countries pay attention to creating favorable conditions, protecting legitimate interests and removing difficulties for Vietnamese enterprises in Brunei, especially related to labor issues, business conditions, residence, access to resources, etc.

At the same time, the Embassy will promote and introduce the image of the country, people, and Vietnamese products, connecting Vietnamese businesses in the area with Bruneian and domestic businesses to concretize cooperation opportunities between the two countries in priority economic and trade fields.
