Strengthening trade connections and investment promotion between Ho Chi Minh City and the Central coastal provinces

The conference aims to properly assess the results of 01 year of coordination in implementing the Agreement on socio-economic development cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Coast provinces signed on April 15, 2023 in Khanh Hoa province as well as summarize practical experiences to continue to concretize the contents and programs of the Cooperation Agreement in the period of 2024-2025.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee said that the Central Coastal Region is an important strategic area in terms of politics, economy, culture, society, national defense and security; especially with many potentials and advantages for marine economic development. However, the recent cooperation and development process also shows the shortcomings and bottlenecks that bind the potential and affect the development process of the Region.

These include limitations in market size and circulation of goods. The Central Coast region has a relatively low population size and density, making the purchasing power of the domestic market low. On the other hand, the terrain stretching hundreds of kilometers affects the circulation and consumption of products in the region and the attraction of the market outside the region is low.

In addition, the geographical and topographic characteristics of the Central Coastal Region are continuous with complex terrain, along with the low starting point of the local economy, small investment accumulation, especially the high regional gap between the East and the West, and the difficulty in connecting the East-West transport infrastructure.

In particular, no locality is capable of assuming the role of the economic center of the Region, which is also a major barrier to the socio-economic development space of the Region.

Accordingly, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee pay attention to coordinating and supporting the Central Coast Region in continuing to increase experience exchange and technology transfer; pay attention to introducing large enterprises of Ho Chi Minh City to participate in investment in the provinces of the Central Coast, creating a driving force for the government to accompany enterprises in bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the provinces.

At the same time, the relevant departments and agencies research and organize specialized promotion conferences, promote and attract enterprises of Ho Chi Minh City to invest in the Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of the region such as: Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Industrial Park; Dung Quat Economic Zone (Quang Ngai); Nam Phu Yen Economic Zone; Van Phong Economic Zone (Khanh Hoa); Du Long Industrial Park, Phuoc Nam Industrial Park (Ninh Thuan), Ham Kiem I Industrial Park, Ham Kiem II Industrial Park (Binh Thuan).

At the conference, local leaders, experts and businesses shared many results achieved through the socio-economic development cooperation agreement between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of the Central Coast; made feasible recommendations on investment solutions, mechanisms and policies in attracting investment in general and supporting businesses and investors in particular in the development process in localities.

Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said: The enthusiastic contributions of the business community and the discussions and proposals of local leaders on the orientation for implementing the Agreement on socio-economic development cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of the Central Coast in the coming time have suggested effective contents and solutions that need to be focused on and widely implemented to maximize the effectiveness of the cooperation program; at the same time, together proposing solutions to overcome the remaining limitations in the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement.

Through this, Ho Chi Minh City also requested local leaders to continue to pay attention and unanimously direct local agencies and units to strengthen coordination with Ho Chi Minh City's departments and units to focus on implementing the Cooperation Program for the period 2024 - 2025 with 11 regional events and 11 bilateral cooperation contents, focusing on key areas including: promoting investment, trade and tourism promotion activities; supporting the connection of supply and demand for goods consumption between localities, boosting exports; linking the development of the tourism sector; Supporting the development of the health, education and training sectors.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City requested local leaders to pay attention to creating conditions and promptly removing difficulties and obstacles for businesses in Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of the Region because this is the most effective force in implementing the linkage.

“In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City also hopes that the business community of Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the Region will strengthen trade connections, promote investment, consume products and support each other in experience and technology in management and production for mutual development,” Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai emphasized.

Ho Chi Minh City leaders present souvenirs to provinces in the Central Coast region

Within the framework of this preliminary conference, Central Retail Vietnam Group had a working session and met with the leaders of the People's Committee and departments of Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces to discuss and propose investing in each province 1 Trade Center and at least 2 supermarkets and the initial results were very successful.

Bach Hoa Xanh Trading Joint Stock Company also met and worked with the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Planning and Investment of Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, and Phu Yen provinces on the proposal to invest in 20 Bach Hoa Xanh stores in each province and coordinate to build a sustainable supply chain locally.

On this occasion, Quang Ngai province was chosen as the host of the Conference to summarize the Socio-Economic Development Cooperation Program between Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Coastal Provinces in 2025.
