Strengthening solutions to control birth rate, reducing gender imbalance at birth

(VLO) On March 28, a survey delegation from the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society, led by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Mai - Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Society, came to work with the People's Committee of Vinh Long province on the implementation of population policies and laws in the period 2018-2024.

Working with the survey delegation were Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Trang - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Vinh Long province; National Assembly delegate Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee.

Implementing Resolution No. 21 of the National Assembly, in recent years, Vinh Long province has issued directive documents and promoted policy communication to shift the focus from family planning to population and development, along with improving population quality in the new situation.

The population structure of the province has changed positively, the proportion of dependent population has decreased, the working-age population has increased. In the period of 2018-2024, Vinh Long province is in the golden population period, the population size has increased steadily, the quality of the province's population has been significantly improved in both physical and mental strength through health care programs and projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh proposed that the National Assembly consider and soon promulgate the Population Law; amend and supplement the Law on the Elderly. There should be some appropriate policy mechanisms for enterprises to create conditions for enterprises to prioritize working hours as well as preferential policies for female workers; at the same time, the regional geriatric hospital should be located in Vinh Long.

Vice Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Society - Nguyen Hoang Mai acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that Vinh Long province has achieved in implementing population policies and laws in the period of 2018-2024. Thereby, he suggested that the province continue to review difficulties in resources; strengthen solutions to control birth rates, reduce gender imbalance at birth. It is necessary to proactively review social security policies, ensure better implementation, no interruption in policy implementation, and ensure people's rights.
