Dak Lak is currently entering a peak period of increased risk of deforestation, encroachment on forest land, illegal logging and forest fires.
Therefore, to proactively manage and protect forests, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued Directive No. 02/CT-UBND, dated January 12, 2024 on strengthening forest management and protection, forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR), and forest development before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2024 in Dak Lak province.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested heads of relevant departments, branches, and sectors, Chairmen of People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities, and forest owners to focus on implementing the following contents: Continue to strengthen propaganda and education work, raise awareness and sense of law compliance of all cadres, party members, businesses, and all people on forest protection and management, forest fire prevention and control, and forest development work according to the provisions of the Forestry Law and documents guiding the implementation of the Law, contributing to protecting the ecological environment, mitigating natural disasters, and adapting to climate change.
Focus on patrolling, checking, and preventing deforestation, forest fires, and encroachment on forestry land in key areas, hotspots of deforestation, illegal logging, and border areas between Dak Lak province and neighboring provinces; strengthen inspection and examination of compliance with forestry laws by forest owners, processing facilities, civil carpentry, charcoal kilns, gathering places for trading in forest products, wildlife, and illegal forest product transportation routes before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin to promptly detect, prevent, and handle.
Continue to implement the plan for afforestation and tree planting in the province for the period 2021 - 2025; closely inspect and monitor the conversion of forest use to other purposes to implement urgent and key projects/works, socio-economic development projects/works in the locality; resolutely suspend projects with violations, and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate and lack responsibility in forest management and protection in the locality...
People's Committees at all levels shall enhance their role and responsibility in state management of forest protection and management according to the provisions of Clause 2 and Clause 3, Article 102 of the Forestry Law; regularly assess the situation and results of assigning tasks to agencies, units and commune-level authorities to implement solutions for forest protection and development management and forest fire prevention and control to strengthen discipline in implementing decentralization of state management.
The Public Security, Military, Agriculture and Rural Development sectors continue to implement the coordination contents according to the documents of the Government and the Provincial People's Committee; prepare plans to ensure forces, materials, equipment and logistics, be on standby, ready to coordinate forces to respond to and handle urgent situations in forest protection and fire prevention and control, not to let large fires occur; regularly inspect, investigate, determine the causes and subjects causing forest fires to strictly handle them according to the provisions of law...
For forest owners: consolidate and strengthen the specialized forest protection force and ensure conditions for this force to operate effectively; strengthen coordination with functional sectors to propagate, patrol, and inspect the protection of existing forest areas and forest land, especially hot spots of deforestation, illegal exploitation and transportation of forest products; implement remedial measures: "reforestation", "enclose and promote forest regeneration" to restore forests, contributing to increasing forest cover in the province.
