Along with adding aircraft charters, shortening turnaround times and increasing aircraft operating hours, airlines have increased night and early morning flights to offer customers the most suitable prices during the April 30-May 1 holiday period and the summer peak.
2,000 additional night flights
To serve the travel demand during the April 30-May 1 holiday and the summer peak, Vietnam Airlines operates and opens for sale an additional 2,000 flights operating in the late hours after 9:00 p.m. every day on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon... to add more options for passengers in the context of reduced supply due to the impact of engine recall.
Accordingly, the airline also opens for sale many economy class tickets at attractive prices during this time frame such as economy class tickets (from 1,724,000 VND/trip or 1,929,000 VND/trip, including taxes and fees) for the journey between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City or economy class tickets on flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon...
In addition, the airline offers many business class promotions from only VND 1,909,000/way (including taxes and fees) for some domestic flights with departure times before/at 6am and from/after 9pm. These programs may have conditions regarding departure time and flight route.
“With night and early morning flights, the supply of fares is still abundant on many routes and passengers can easily choose the itinerary with the most suitable price within their budget,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines recorded that in the first two days of the holiday (April 27-28), the occupancy rate of many tourist routes has reached 70-90% such as Hanoi-Hue, Chu Lai, Quy Nhon, Dong Hoi, Nha Trang; Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Dong Hoi, Da Lat, Van Don... Flights from Hanoi to Da Nang and Phu Quoc have been filled by more than half and are expected to continue to increase sharply in the week leading up to the holiday.
Thus, on the occasion of April 30 - May 1, Vietnam Airlines will provide a total of 575,000 seats and 2,900 flights during the peak period from April 26 to May 2, an increase of more than 10% over the same period last year.
The domestic routes with the most increased flights are tourist routes such as between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Con Dao... For the international route network, Vietnam Airlines focuses on increasing capacity to Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia.
Vietjet Air also said it will add 86,000 seats, equivalent to nearly 425 flights on routes to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, etc. during the summer to serve people and tourists. Vietjet Air also focuses resources to increase flights, reduce turnaround time at airports and bring customers good price promotions.
Reduce aircraft turnaround time
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the peak holiday period of April 30 - May 1 (from April 26 to May 2), Vietnamese airlines are expected to provide about 900,000 seats on domestic flights.
Of which, the flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to localities are 657,000 seats; 3,400 flights, an increase of 4.2% in seats provided and 5.5% in the number of flights compared to the same period in 2023. The expected fleet of Vietnamese airlines in this period is 165-170 aircraft, a decrease of 40-45 aircraft compared to the same period in 2023.
To ensure the supply capacity in the context of the aviation industry facing a shortage of transport forces, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has directed to increase the parameters for coordinating landing and take-off times (slots) at Noi Bai International Airport from 37 flights/hour during the day and 30 flights/hour at night to 42 flights/hour and 32 flights/hour, respectively; at Tan Son Nhat International Airport from 42 flights/hour during the day and 32 flights/hour at night to 44 flights/hour and 36 flights/hour, respectively.
During April 26-27, April 30-May 1, increase the coordination parameters at Tan Son Nhat Airport to 46 flights/hour during daytime hours.
In addition, airlines are also allowed to adjust slots at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports as well as other airports, helping airlines optimize their operating schedules, increase operating hours of the fleet, and reduce aircraft turnaround time to suit the operating conditions of each airport.
Vietnamese airlines have also sought to add aircraft by wet leasing aircraft in the short term, extending the fleet's operating time, especially increasing operations during the evening and night hours. It is expected that Vietnam Airlines' aircraft operating time will increase from 10 hours/aircraft/day to about 11-12 hours/aircraft/day.
In addition, the airline closely coordinates with ground service units in flight service. Thereby, shortening the aircraft turnaround time from 45 minutes to about 30-35 minutes, in accordance with the actual operating conditions of the airline, airport and increasing the use of wide-body aircraft in domestic operations to contribute to supplementing/increasing the supply capacity.
