Since the beginning of the year, epidemics occurring in livestock (rabies, foot-and-mouth disease, etc.) have caused significant losses in terms of herd size, exploitation output, and the risk of affecting human health. In order to proactively prevent and minimize the damage caused by epidemics, contribute to sustainable livestock development, protect people's health and the environment, the Provincial People's Committee has issued many documents directing and urging departments, branches, and localities to implement measures to prevent and control epidemics in livestock.
The province also promotes propaganda and facilitates people to develop farm-scale livestock farming, high-tech agricultural production, chain livestock farming and livestock linkage. Currently, the province has 292 livestock farms meeting farm scale; 10 high-tech farm farms (including 1 breeding sow farm with a scale of 500 sows; 7 pig farms with a scale of 300 to 2,000 pigs; 2 poultry farms with a regular scale of 10,000 to 20,000 pigs); there are 2 livestock and poultry linkage chains. Farm livestock farms and livestock linkages are responsible for disease prevention, control and limitation of widespread disease spread.
Currently, vaccination is identified as one of the best disease prevention measures for livestock. Since the beginning of the year, the Provincial People's Committee has resolutely directed and assigned vaccination targets to districts, cities and towns. On that basis, the People's Committees of localities have assigned planning targets to communes, wards and towns for implementation. In addition, functional agencies and local authorities have stepped up propaganda and mobilized livestock households to proactively invest funds for vaccination against a number of diseases (in addition to State support) to prevent epidemics and protect livestock.
Bao Thang is a key area for livestock and poultry farming in the province. Faced with the risk of disease outbreaks in livestock, the People's Committee of Bao Thang district has directed specialized agencies and People's Committees of communes and towns to organize propaganda about infectious diseases and disease prevention and control measures. Mr. Vu Kieu Hung, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bao Thang district, said: The district has stepped up propaganda about the dangers of epidemics so that livestock farmers can raise their awareness and proactively prevent epidemics; at the same time, speed up the vaccination of livestock, strengthen slaughter control, and require households to declare livestock farming according to regulations.
In Van Ban district, animal disease prevention and control work has also been actively implemented with measures such as vaccinating animals and spraying disinfectants, sterilizing the environment, strictly controlling the transportation, trading, and slaughtering of animals... Khanh Yen town - where foot-and-mouth disease occurred in livestock in February with 44 pigs infected. Immediately after being detected, all pigs infected with foot-and-mouth disease were isolated for treatment; barns were limed, disinfected, and the environment cleaned; propaganda and dissemination to people about the harmful effects of foot-and-mouth disease, disease prevention measures, and the application of biosafety measures in livestock farming were stepped up. Van Ban district also carried out additional vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease in livestock and disinfected the livestock farming environment throughout the district.
Currently, animal diseases in the province have been controlled and no further outbreaks have occurred. However, in the face of complicated developments nationwide, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 31/CD-TTg, dated April 4, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee directed specialized agencies, local authorities and livestock households in the province to synchronously deploy solutions to prevent and minimize damage caused by diseases, contributing to sustainable livestock development and protecting people's health.
