On August 28, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to organize a direct discussion with business leaders of Dak Lak province about the ecosystem of taking advantage of free trade agreements (FTAs), including the CPTPP agreement in the coffee sector.
Attending the seminar were representatives of the Multilateral Trade Policy Department; Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association; Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade and departments, branches, enterprises, cooperatives, production and business households in the province.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhiem - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: There are currently more than 170 import and export enterprises in the province. The province's goods have been exported to more than 70 countries and territories around the world. Regarding coffee products, in the 2022-2023 crop year, Dak Lak province exported 318,483 tons (accounting for 18.3% of the country); export turnover reached more than 747 million USD. In the first 6 months of 2024 alone, the province exported 174,942 tons of coffee, reaching a turnover of more than 600 million USD. However, the province's coffee exports are mainly green coffee (raw products), the proportion of processed coffee exported annually has not increased much. Therefore, the contents discussed at the seminar are the premise for building an ecosystem to effectively utilize FTAs for the coffee industry of Dak Lak province, creating connections between relevant entities to enhance competitiveness in the coming time. At the same time, responding well to new policies and regulations on food hygiene and safety, regulations on anti-deforestation, and common food laws of the EU market applied to all stages of food production, processing and distribution.

At the seminar, the representative of the Multilateral Trade Policy Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) introduced the project to build an ecosystem to take advantage of FTAs for the coffee industry as well as provide a roadmap for construction, operation methods, participation criteria and benefits for all parties... It is expected that the ecosystem will be officially deployed from September 2025.

Discussing at the seminar, delegates said that in the context of taking advantage of FTAs, the coffee industry of Dak Lak province faces challenges in planting, producing, processing and exporting. To effectively take advantage of FTAs, it is necessary to promote the application of digital transformation in the field of coffee production; clearly define the roles, responsibilities and benefits of the parties involved in the industry chain; strengthen cooperation and investment between enterprises and cooperatives to build standard raw material areas and ensure product output; focus on improving product quality to meet export needs...
