Giap Vu Nam Duong at the VinUni graduation ceremony on June 29
On June 29, VinUni University recognized the graduation of 145 students of the first academic year (2020-2024) with outstanding achievements.
Study at VinUni, work in the US
Referring to the generations of VinUni students in general and this first batch of graduates, Professor Max J. Pfeffer - Academic Director of the Cornell-VinUniversity Project - called them "outstanding young people".
"What is the most impressive name to you?". "
"Giap Vicky" - Professor Max J. Pfeffer replied almost immediately.
Giap Vicky, real name Giap Vu Nam Duong, is not only an excellent student of VinUni University, but also a prominent young face in Vietnam.
The 4 years studying business administration at VinUni were a very exciting time for Nam Duong. It was also that time that created a Giap Vu Nam Duong full of energy, eager to learn, and daring to take risks.
Nam Duong’s final year at VinUni is an extremely busy time. During the day, he goes to school and at night, he works online with a US company, StoryCo. That’s not to mention many other activities, such as being in charge of marketing for the Cornell 2024 Blockchain conference.
"Last year, during my transition semester at Cornell University, when I was in charge of marketing for the Cornell Blockchain Conference 2023, I made more people aware of the conference, and the number of tickets sold doubled compared to the previous conference. Because I was so impressed by that, this year the conference organizers invited me back to help them," Nam Duong said.
Indonesian students in VinUni - Cornell University exchange program
Four years ago, VinUni University was a completely new name in the list of Vietnamese universities. The belief in the aspiration of building an excellent university for Vietnam by Vingroup 's leaders was the driving force that made Nam Duong "commit" to becoming a student of VinUni's first class.
"At that time, I received scholarships from 4 universities in the US. But I talked to my father, and we both agreed that it would be a long time before Vietnam would have a university project of this magnitude.
Therefore, this is an opportunity for me to become one of the first bricks to lay the foundation for building an elite university," the female graduate of VinUni's first course shared.
Entering VinUni, Nam Duong was like "a fish in water". Before ringing the bell at the NASDAQ stock exchange in Times Square (thanks to being in charge of marketing the Cornell Blockchain Conference 2023), you were a pioneer in many student activities at VinUni.
You are the editor-in-chief of VinMagazine, in charge of editing the book "Dictionary 202X", writing scripts and hosting the program Zlife of VTV Digital...
"You can always do better" is a lesson that Nam Duong's parents taught him from a young age, always urging him to be able to do many things at the same time.
Bringing Vietnamese product stories to the world
Nam Duong confided that he is a person who likes to tell stories, and marketing is about telling stories about products to the community. Therefore, he chose to study marketing at VinUni, partly because VinUni's partner is Cornell University - a place with excellent marketing professors.
"VinUni is the path that helps us students stand on the shoulders of giants," Nam Duong said.
Currently, Nam Duong is doing the job of his dreams at StoryCo - a startup that creates an open media platform, helping artists, writers, and collaborators create multimedia products.
Nam Duong is very excited about his job, because he gets to participate in spreading the creativity of artists through marketing stories.
With the strategic training cooperation of Cornell University, VinUni always adheres to strict international standards in academics to create the best experiences in scientific research, practical internships and social responsibility for all students.
Although he has just graduated, this new graduate said he has no intention of stopping his studies. However, Nam Duong wants to work to gain practical experience, which will help him acquire new knowledge in a truly profound way when he goes to higher education.
When asked about the long-term destination on the future journey, Nam Duong returned to the concern of "what can I do for the country".
Nam Duong confided: "I still want to be an excellent storyteller, telling beautiful fairy-tale stories of Vietnam in a new way. Going abroad, I realized that products made in Vietnam are still very few. When talking about Vietnam, people still only think about war, then pho, then coffee...
I realize that we Vietnamese are very talented. We have, are, and will have many unique products. It's just that we haven't found good storytellers to spread our products to the world. I believe my generation will fill this gap."
