French officials said the incident occurred in a classroom after a break. The victim, an English teacher, suffered facial injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested by local police.
Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to deal with the incident. Teachers and students at the school were provided with psychological support to help reduce the panic following the incident. The prosecutor's office has now opened an investigation into the attack.
According to initial statements, the student who committed the stabbing had been studying at the above educational institution for 3 years. On May 27, this male student returned to class after a period of sick leave. Last week, the subject bought the knife used in the incident. The subject also said that he was under too much pressure.
Prosecutors have ruled out any extremist or religious motive in the attack, and the suspect does not appear to have any grievances against the teacher.
French Education Minister Nicole Belloubet expressed shock and outrage at the incident, and expressed solidarity with the victim as well as the entire teaching staff in the education sector.
