“Three rivers and four waters, Hunan appointment” - Promoting Hunan cultural tourism

NDO - The cultural exchange program to introduce and promote Hunan tourism with the theme "Three rivers and four waters - Hunan appointment" was organized by the Chinese Cultural Center in Hanoi, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hunan province in coordination with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam) on April 23 in Hanoi.

Attending the program were Mr. Jiang Di Fei - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hunan Province (China); Mr. He Wei - Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of the National Tourism Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam) and nearly 100 delegates who are leaders and state managers of culture and tourism of the two countries; representatives of a number of associations, organizations and many prestigious tourism businesses.

Aiming to strengthen solidarity, enhance cultural exchange and expand tourism cooperation between the two countries, the event was held in the context of Vietnam and China celebrating the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025) and implementing the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025 - an important milestone for the two sides to look back on the journey of cooperation and look to the future with a long-term strategic vision.

Notably, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping paid a State visit to Vietnam (from April 14-15, 2025) at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam.

During this visit, the two sides reached a high level of agreement on major directions for developing bilateral relations in the new period, including continuing to deepen the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

In particular, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchange were affirmed by both sides as one of the important pillars, playing a practical role in strengthening trust, enhancing understanding and connecting the people of the two countries.

The two sides emphasized the effective implementation of the Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Plan for the 2023-2027 period, promoting delegation exchanges at all levels, promoting cooperation in tourism product development, training tourism human resources, and jointly removing technical barriers to facilitate travel between the two countries' people.

According to Mr. Tuong Dich Phi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hunan Province (China), Vietnam-China cultural tourism cooperation is facing great prospects, and at the same time, he proposed a number of proposals. Specifically, speeding up the mechanism of cooperation for mutual development, building a cultural-tourism platform mechanism between Hunan Province and Vietnam; simplifying visa procedures, unifying customs procedures, consolidating mechanisms and building infrastructure for the tourism platform, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides, developing to a new height.

Integrate core cultural elements, translate classic works of Hunan and Vietnam, take cultural empathy as the root, share both resources and spiritual strength. Build an industry ecosystem, build unique cross-border tourism routes, one journey - many destinations; build a new ecosystem for sustainable and quality development of Chinese, Vietnamese and ASEAN tourism consumption and culture...

According to Mr. Ha Vi - Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, tourism has long been considered an effective bridge between people and people, between one culture and another. In recent years, tourism cooperation between China and Vietnam has achieved many encouraging results. With the promotion of unique cultural and tourism products and resources of Hunan province, the number of tourists between the two countries will continuously increase, opening up broad cooperation prospects, contributing to enhancing exchanges and mutual understanding between people, especially the young generation of the two countries.

Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said that in recent times, tourism cooperation between Vietnam and China has continued to achieve many important steps forward, with active participation from the central to local levels, from the Government to enterprises. The two sides have coordinated to organize many exciting and practical tourism promotion activities.

In the first three months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.2 million Chinese visitors, an increase of 78.3% over the same period in 2024. In 2024 alone, the number of Chinese visitors reached over 3.7 million, an increase of more than 114% over 2023, demonstrating the great potential of the market.

On the other hand, Vietnam is also one of the important tourist markets of many Chinese localities. In Hunan province alone, Vietnam is the fourth market in terms of international visitors with more than 159,000 arrivals in 2024.

Hunan has become one of the attractive destinations for Vietnamese tourists thanks to its majestic natural landscape, ancient features and increasingly complete tourism service system. Typical images of Hunan such as Zhangjiajie, Phoenix Ancient Town... are continuously shared widely on social networking platforms and media channels, contributing to strengthening the position of this destination in the minds of Vietnamese tourists.

“The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is ready to accompany Hunan province in particular and Chinese localities in general in developing attractive inter-route tourism products; organizing survey teams, promoting two-way tourism; promoting the expansion of flight routes, improving visa procedures; and strengthening connections between travel businesses of the two countries,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh.

Within the framework of the program, delegates enjoyed special images through videos promoting Hunan cultural tourism, listened to introductions of five typical tourism product highlights, witnessed the signing of tourism cooperation agreements and immersed themselves in the artistic space with unique traditional performances of Hunan.
