Returning to her hometown with a group of friends for a vacation after months of working in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Tran Thi Thu was quite surprised to find that Tam Hai island commune offered SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) services. This service is usually only available at large tourist beaches like Da Nang and Vung Tau…

This allowed Thu and her group of friends to have a fun and exciting vacation, as in addition to visiting the scenic Ban Than area, they also enjoyed boating to watch the sunset and savoring seafood on the idyllic beach.

“I am very pleased to have such diverse tourist services as at famous beaches. Tam Hai also has the advantage of having pristine beaches and rocky cliffs, and delicious and inexpensive seafood. Now that there are more accommodation, camping, and recreational services for tourists, it will be a great opportunity to attract more visitors,” Ms. Thu commented.

According to a service provider here, not only tourists from afar but also many locals from Nui Thanh choose to rent SUPs, tents, or book overnight camping and party services.

"SUP paddling services are always busy in the mornings and afternoons when people go swimming and want to paddle SUPs to immerse themselves in nature."

"As for the camping and party service, it's for families or groups of young people who love experiences and relaxation. If we combine it with community tourism, with management and guidance from the government, I believe the island commune will become a famous destination," this person said.

According to the leaders of Tam Hai commune, over the past year or so, many individuals in the locality have developed tourism services. Although there are no specific statistics, the number of households offering homestays, food services, camping, SUP paddling, etc., has grown significantly. The trend of ecotourism is currently popular, so the number of visitors to Tam Hai island commune has increased, especially on weekends.

In addition, the island commune also receives support from vloggers, YouTubers, and TikTokers. Attracted by the island's beauty, they come here to create videos showcasing their experiences and promoting it through digital platforms and social media, helping to raise awareness and encourage more people to visit.

“Most visitors come from Da Nang, Quang Nam, and other hometowns. They choose to have a short two-day weekend getaway on the island commune because the service prices are reasonable and the locals are friendly, allowing them to experience many interesting things about the life and culture of the fishing village,” said Mr. Do Kim Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Hai commune.

Waiting for investors

However, tourism activities in Tam Hai are currently mostly spontaneous. Therefore, tourism products remain quite monotonous. And there are still significant gaps in the exploitation and development of tourism in the locality. There is no specific promotional activity or planning; in other words, there is still no systematic organization for tourism development. Visitors mainly learn about Tam Hai through word-of-mouth and social media…

According to the tourism development plan for Nui Thanh, in the future, several main tours will be formed, including "The Imprint of Nui Thanh" (visiting the Nui Thanh Victory Monument - Tich Tay mangrove forest - Rang Beach - Tam Hai island commune), the "From the forest to the sea" tour (Tam My Tay commune fruit orchard - Giang Thom pit - Rang Beach - Tam Hai island commune), and the "A day as a fisherman in the island commune" experience tour. However, for various reasons, these tours remain just ideas and have not yet been implemented.

Recognizing the potential of coastal tourism, the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District and Tam Hai Commune have continuously invited investors to conduct surveys. At the same time, the local government always creates favorable conditions for households in the area to provide tourism services.

The People's Committee of Nui Thanh District has approved an investment of 20 billion VND to build two 30-ton capacity ferries to meet the transportation needs of people and vehicles. Regarding the Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua scenic area, Nui Thanh has undertaken a landscape improvement project with a total budget of over 3.7 billion VND.

Furthermore, the Tam Hai island commune tourism project, including items such as piers, parking lots, restrooms, and land compensation, has been included in the public investment portfolio. The project is expected to be implemented in 2025 with a total budget of 6.7 billion VND...

Recently, the Tam Hai mural restoration project in 2024 was implemented with the participation of nearly 50 staff, lecturers, and students from the Faculty of Architecture, Danang University of Technology - Danang University. The volunteers renovated 28 murals that were painted in 2017.

The theme of the mural village is clearly expressed through the use of the dominant color scheme of blue, representing the sea and sky, to recreate the peaceful life, culture, and scenery of Tam Hai fishing village. A special feature of the murals is the interactive space they create for tourists to take photos and check in.

“We urgently need investment support for the waterway transportation system, expansion of the main road connecting scenic spots, and promotion of tourism for Tam Hai… because currently, a large number of tourists have come here, creating opportunities for the development of the island commune,” Mr. Do Kim Hung suggested.
