At around 1:15 a.m. on June 11, Mr. Dung drove a 15-ton truck carrying coffee, with a co-driver, to Ea Ktur commune. When Mr. Dung's car reached the commune entrance, he encountered a group of people.

Mr. Dung said: “That group went all the way to the main road, I couldn’t avoid any cars. I stopped the car and thought the soldiers and militia were just practicing something and they were using flashlights to shine on the car windows.

But when I turned on the headlights, I saw guns and knives. There were as many guns as there were people. There were about thirty of them blocking the car. I knew something was happening, thinking it was a robbery, so I took my wallet out and hid it under the driver's seat and took nearly 3 million VND.

When I got closer, a man ran up, raised his gun and asked me to turn off the lights. He spoke in Kinh and asked me to get out of the car, but I didn’t dare open the door, locked the car door and told the assistant to lock the other door as well.

According to Mr. Dung, they fired many shots, one of them shot at the driver, but luckily he ducked down and hid under the steering wheel, so he escaped death. The busboy also ducked down.

“My soul was gone. The subject stood 1 meter away from me, shooting from below, intending to kill the driver. They were masked, their heads covered, only their eyes were visible, all of them were wearing camouflage.

At that time, I just needed to start the engine and drive away, but there were 2-3 people standing in front of the car so I didn't dare start the engine.

After they shot me, they thought I was dead and left. About 3 minutes later, I looked in the rearview mirror and didn’t see them anymore. Immediately, I started the engine, turned on the headlights and drove away. It took about 15 minutes in total,” Mr. Dung said about his lucky escape.

After driving about 20 meters, Mr. Dung saw a 4-seater car parked on the road, but there was no one there, forcing him to swerve around the car to continue driving. Along the way, Mr. Dung and the bus assistant saw a big fire at the commune People's Committee, but having just escaped death, he did not dare to stop.

Driving a little further, Mr. Dung and the busboy saw a pickup truck with a man slumped over inside. The busboy told Mr. Dung that the man had probably been shot dead. Mr. Dung became even more frightened and continued driving.

However, before he could recover, Mr. Dung and his assistant continued to face danger when they encountered a group of 3 people wearing camouflage, using 2 tractors to block the main road. Mr. Dung's car had no way out, the subjects pointed guns and demanded that the 2 people get out of the car.

As soon as he got off the bus, the bus assistant was hit in the back of the neck with a gun butt by a subject, causing him to fall to his knees. The subject asked the bus assistant to kneel down, holding his head with both hands…. They asked Mr. Dung to drive and block the road, not allowing other vehicles to pass. Then the subject pulled out a knife and damaged the tires.

“They asked me to stand closer, I was sure that I would be stabbed or shot. At that time, 3 cars drove in, about 300-400m away, they shouted, “Come out and kill them all.” Immediately, about ten people rushed out from the coffee garden and opened fire. The tourist cars turned around and drove away,” Mr. Dung recounted.

Taking advantage of the moment when the subjects opened fire on the cars, Mr. Dung ran into a roadside coffee garden to hide. The busboy also escaped.

Then, the subjects returned to Mr. Dung's car, used 2 homemade petrol bombs to throw into the car cabin, causing an explosion, and then left.

Mr. Dung ran out of the coffee garden and called the people living along the road to turn on the water to put out the fire. But at this moment, the fire broke out, the dangerous subjects turned around, discovered the incident and returned. Mr. Dung threw away the water hose and once again ran into the coffee garden to hide.

When the subjects really left, Mr. Dung dared to go out and put out the fire, but the entire cabin and 1/3 of the back of the vehicle were burned, and the goods were damaged. A while later, a group of Mobile Police came to ask Mr. Dung about the direction the subjects were moving.

"I'm very lucky to still be alive, because at that time I thought I was dead," Mr. Dung recounted, still terrified of the guns and knives of dangerous people.
