On January 26, Da Nang Family Hospital announced that the hospital's team of doctors from three departments specializing in surgery, aesthetics, and neurology had successfully performed a surgery to arrange the frontal sinus bone and correct the nose of male patient QH (22 years old, residing in Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City).
Previously, at the end of 2023, Mr. H. unfortunately fell and injured his head and face, causing severe damage, depression and facial deformity. After the accident, Mr. H. was monitored for a traumatic brain injury at another medical facility, but the forehead above the left eyebrow was sunken to a depth of nearly 1 cm, the depression was 4 cm in diameter.
The team of doctors performed surgery on male patient H.
At Da Nang Family Hospital, after clinical examination combined with 3D CT scan, the doctors consulted and decided to perform surgery to restore Mr. H's face to its most intact state possible.
Within 2 hours, the doctors meticulously separated and removed the crushed frontal bone from the body to clean the damaged area. Then, they arranged the bones to "connect" the bone fragments with titanium screws to help restore the patient's deformed face.
According to doctors, the broken bone is the frontal area of the face with very thin bone walls, accompanied by many blood vessels and nerves. Therefore, it is necessary to use a special type of screw splint with a thinner splint and shorter screws than usual.
Thanks to the use of appropriate screws and splints and gentle dissection with minimal tissue damage, after surgery, the patient has absolutely no nerve damage or discomfort due to splint pressure - a very common symptom when using conventional screws and splints.
Injuries of patient H. before and after surgery
After the surgery, patient H. quickly recovered, and his face returned to its original state. Before being discharged from the hospital, he expressed his gratitude to the medical team for helping him overcome his self-consciousness about his deformed face before the surgery.
Master-Doctor Pham Ngoc Quang, Professional Director of the Aesthetic Center, Da Nang Family Hospital, said that although accidents and falls do not affect the skull or brain, the impact on the face and facial deformity will leave serious psychological consequences, causing self-consciousness in communication in both men and women. Therefore, instead of hesitating to let the consequences last, patients should go to reputable medical facilities for timely treatment.
