Recurrence of African swine fever and lumpy skin disease in Thach Ha

(Baohatinh.vn) - African swine fever and lumpy skin disease are occurring in Luu Vinh Son and Phu Luu communes (Thach Ha, Ha Tinh).

According to information from Thach Ha district, since April 11, in Phu Luu commune, 3 cows in 3 households in Dong Chau and My Hoa villages were found to have lumpy skin disease. To date, 2/3 of the cows have died; the weight to be destroyed is 275kg.

Along with lumpy skin disease, since April 13, in Luu Vinh Son commune, an outbreak of African swine fever has appeared in pigs of 4 households in the villages of Tan Huong, Xuan Son, Bau Am. The number of sick and dead pigs is 6, with a total weight of 559kg.

In the epidemic area, local authorities and people set up checkpoints and sprinkled lime powder for disinfection.

Previously, since the beginning of 2025, in Thach Ha district, African swine fever outbreaks have continuously appeared in Thinh Loc and Thach Chau communes... causing nearly 50 pigs to die and have to be destroyed.

Faced with the complicated situation of livestock epidemics, Thach Ha district is urgently implementing many prevention and control solutions; promptly distributing chemicals, lime powder, Lumpyvac vaccine, human resources, and tools for mass spraying, preventive vaccination, setting up blockades in areas where the epidemic has occurred, and implementing large-scale prevention. Departments, agencies, and sectors, according to their functions, strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of disease prevention and control measures in localities; promptly provide guidance and disseminate information related to disease prevention and control.

Thach Ha is actively implementing many solutions to prevent and control the epidemic.

Mr. Vo Ta Binh - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Director of the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of the district said: "We are focusing on reviewing and grasping the disease situation, the number of herds, and the number of households to have timely recommendations and solutions. At the same time, coordinating with relevant agencies to strengthen the dissemination of solutions to prevent diseases in general for livestock, and promote vaccination.

Absolutely do not increase or restore herds when an epidemic is occurring; strictly control the slaughter and trading of cattle and buffaloes, especially in epidemic areas; remind people not to let cattle and buffaloes roam freely, buy or sell sick or dead cattle and buffaloes, pay attention to barn hygiene; promptly report to local authorities as soon as an epidemic is detected...".
