(CLO) Young talent Nguyen Duc Kien has just won the First Prize at the 6th Fujairah International Piano Competition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Fujairah International Piano Competition is organized by the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy and is sponsored by the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates of Fujairah Sheikh Mohamed Bin Bam Al-Sarqui.
This is a prestigious music event, attracting young piano talents from all over the world. The competition has been held since 2019, with the aim of creating an international playground for young pianists to demonstrate their talents and exchange cultures. To date, the competition has been held six times, with the sixth time taking place at the end of January 2025. Through each organization, the competition has increasingly affirmed its position in the international music community, while contributing to promoting the development of piano art in the region and the world.
In the 6th competition, the Organizing Committee held qualifying rounds in 10 countries around the world, including classical piano training powerhouses such as Russia, France, Italy, Germany, England, Japan, etc. In addition, the competition also had independent contestants from many different countries.
The Vietnamese delegation consisted of 5 contestants participating in 4 groups (group A from 8 to 10 years old, group B from 11 to 13 years old, group C from 14 to 17 years old, group D from 18 years old and above). The Vietnamese delegation won big as it was one of the few countries to own 3 prizes, including the consolation prize in group A belonging to student TC2/9 Vo Giap Phong, Vietnam National Academy of Music, the 3rd prize in group B belonging to Nguyen Minh Viet, Hanoi College of Art and especially the first prize in group C belonging to Nguyen Duc Kien - talented student TC 8/9, Vietnam National Academy of Music.
With skillful technique, delicate emotions and confidence on stage, Kien conquered the judges and surpassed the contestants in the same group to bring glory to Vietnam. This is a very meaningful victory because Nguyen Duc Kien has excellently surpassed 24 other contestants from more than 10 different countries, including very strong contestants from Russia, China, France, America, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Armenia.....
Before achieving great success at the Fujairah competition, Nguyen Duc Kien had won many awards at large and small competitions at home and abroad. The most prominent and recent was being honored at the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition for Young People held in Russia in 2023. This is a very difficult competition in terms of expertise, with fierce competition from hundreds of contestants from world music powers such as: Japan, USA, France, China, Korea.... At the competition in Russia, Nguyen Duc Kien entered the final round with 15 contestants, received a Diploma and played with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra in Russia.
Sweet fruit from talent and constant efforts
Today's success of musical talent Nguyen Duc Kien is the sweet fruit of many years of continuous effort. Nguyen Duc Kien not only possesses rare musical talent but is also a testament to perseverance, hard work and a burning passion for classical music. Born into a family with no artistic tradition, Kien had to make constant efforts, undergo a serious training process, and spend thousands of hours practicing the instrument to perfect his musical technique and emotions.
Another lucky thing for Kien is that he received the dedicated direct guidance of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong - who has more than 20 years of dedicated dedication to piano teaching at the Piano Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music.
" Kien's success is a great inspiration for young pianists in Vietnam. Kien has proven that with determination, discipline and love for music, anyone can go far in the international arena. I am very proud of his journey and what Kien has achieved. This victory not only marks Nguyen Duc Kien's personal mark but also contributes to affirming Vietnam's position on the international classical music map. Above all, the success of young talents like Nguyen Duc Kien is proof that the quality of music training in Vietnam is increasingly changing positively, and if invested early and in the right direction, Vietnamese musical talents can completely compete with countries with strong music in the international music arena" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong said.
