He not only wore a white lab coat to bring joy to people, but also dedicated himself to the guitar as a true musician and singer. Although he passed away at a young age, at a time when he was full of creative energy, due to a serious illness, he still managed to leave behind deeply moving and heartfelt lyrical songs expressing love for life and people...

I'm not a music expert or someone who's overly passionate about music , but music often comes to me quite unexpectedly and stays with me naturally when I encounter beautiful lyrics in a beautiful melody. The song "The Green of Time," composed by musician Duong Quang Hung from the poem of the same name by the late poet Nguyen Trung Hieu, is an example. For a long time, I would hum the lyrics to myself: "In the midst of cruel pain, I understand your heart even more / The one who prolongs the rhythm of everyday life, we easily forget..."

I learned that, during a hospital stay, the poet Nguyen Trung Hieu, moved by the dedicated care of the doctors and nurses, wrote the poem "The Green of Time" as a token of his gratitude. As if by predestined fate, Doctor and musician Duong Quang Hung immediately received the poem and used music to bring the verses to life. The compassionate soul of Doctor and musician Duong Quang Hung deeply understood the poet's message to the doctors and medical staff who silently and tirelessly cared for the patients' beds.

In this song, Duong Quang Hung retains almost the entire meaning of the poem, but the nuances of a skilled musician have made the lyrics even more poignant: “Sometimes we are unintentional / Sometimes we are unintentional / To stay for a day / Sometimes we are unintentional / Sometimes you are unintentional / To stay for a day…”. Perhaps Duong Quang Hung wants to affirm that the “sometimes” we or you “to stay for a day” is the day when everyone “understands your heart better,” “in the midst of cruel pain”? Because, as a physician, Dr. Duong Quang Hung understands and agrees with the poet's meaning that “on ordinary days we easily forget” those who have dedicated their lives to a difficult profession with the aspiration of “extending life” for everyone. Perhaps this is why the melody, emanating from the depths of the artist's soul, beneath his white lab coat, is so poignant and moving.

I love the way musician-doctor Duong Quang Hung creates music, blurring the boundaries between verses, using music to connect the lyrics and intentionally repeating a particular poetic idea. The creative brilliance of musician-doctor Duong Quang Hung is most evident in the final part of this song, where listeners can feel the romantic and passionate spirit of the artist in the harmony between lyrics and music: “What beautiful verse, ever green with time like the fragrant scent of flowers, remembering the sparkling moon / You are half of me, like the sparkling moon.” The musician adds a few words and changes a few phrases, making the poetic meaning more elegant and full of emotion.

Composer and doctor Duong Quang Hung and poet Nguyen Trung Hieu have both passed away peacefully, but the beautiful poems and melodies that rose from their souls remain in "The Green of Time," alongside the dedicated doctors who tirelessly "extend the rhythm of life" for countless people with the spirit: "A yellow leaf falls / the green color seems unchanged."
