Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Ghazi al-Jalali met with Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hussein Akbari on October 2 to discuss ways to cooperate in supporting Lebanese refugees, prospects for strengthening bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region.

Prime Minister Al-Jalali stressed that the Syrian government will make efforts to ensure the needs of Lebanese refugees, while amending some procedures to facilitate their reception and monitor the situation at their places of residence.
Prime Minister Al-Jalali said Syria is ready to welcome any initiative that helps the Lebanese people evacuate, affirming that Damascus always stands by Beirut.
During the meeting, the two sides also considered cooperation mechanisms to meet humanitarian needs and provide medical support to Lebanese citizens.
Iran's Ambassador to Syria Hussein Akbari said Tehran is ready to coordinate with Syrian authorities to assist Lebanese refugees.
More than 1,000 Lebanese have been killed, 6,000 wounded and some 100,000 have crossed into Syria since Israel stepped up cross-border attacks on Lebanon.
According to Mr. Najib Mikati, Prime Minister of Lebanon, about 1 million people have been forced to leave their homes due to Israeli attacks, stressing that the country is experiencing "the largest wave of migration in its history".
In addition, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been working to provide food, water, blankets and medical assistance at border crossing points, as well as guiding Lebanese refugees to other forms of assistance in Syria.
The agency also launched a fundraising campaign to alleviate humanitarian crises in Lebanon and Syria.
