Synology is a Taiwanese company known for its network-attached storage (NAS) devices for both personal and business use. The difference is that it wrote the DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which is used in conjunction with the hardware to create a multi-purpose NAS solution.
Synology's operating system architecture allows for the integration of additional third-party applications, which now number in the hundreds. Third-party applications can be written in programming languages such as PHP.
Therefore, Synology's solution has long been favored by businesses because it can be autonomous with data, not depending on any third party to manage sensitive data.
At Computex 2023, Synology introduced many new solutions to help businesses at all levels protect data with effective hardware and software solutions.
First, in the recently released DSM 7.2 operating system, Synology has added features including write-once-read-many (WORM) technology and encrypted partitions. WORM provides immutable backup and storage capabilities, with the ability to protect folders, prevent editing for a specified period of time or permanently disable change requests. WORM technology has many applications for banking and financial businesses.

Hard drives in NAS systems using the new DSM version are fully encrypted, helping to prevent data leakage in case the system is stolen.
Next is the Synology C2 cloud solution and Hybrid Cloud storage. For cloud-based applications, Synology has C2 Password, C2 Backup, C2 Object Storage, C2 Transfer and C2 Identity solutions, services that do not require owning the company's NAS devices but can be used on the cloud platform with 3 server regions including the US, Europe and Taiwan.
For businesses that already use Synology NAS, the company has a hybrid cloud solution with C2 Storage services that combine cloud and NAS storage capabilities, along with camera data storage and analysis (C2 Surveillance), as well as using Active Insight tools for automated real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, protection, and monitoring.
Synology also has solutions to back up data from computers, remote servers... from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 cloud platforms, creating multiple layers of backup, increasing data protection capabilities.
For data security solutions to avoid employee information disclosure, Synology NAS drives have features to help manage data and access devices. When an employee's device is stolen, the administrator can set the program installed on the machine to automatically delete all synchronized data.
Backup and security solutions on public and hybrid cloud platforms
Administrators also have full authority to share data with a group of employees, specify which folders can only be viewed but not downloaded, or download documents will be automatically watermarked by the program to identify which device the data leak came from.
Synology also offers two AI-powered IP cameras that are weather-resistant for smart surveillance. The BC500 and TC500 cameras feature AI analysis and integrate seamlessly with Synology's Surveillance Station camera management system.

Both are equipped with powerful AI analytics functions, sending timely and accurate alerts for faster incident response. The camera's features include human, vehicle, intrusion detection, and Instant Search - allowing for reliable identification of potential threats, rapid investigation of areas of interest, and tracking and retrieval of relevant footage. Notably, Synology's cameras are compliant with the US NDAA and TAA standards, making them a safe choice for surveillance equipment installers and security system integrators.
Synology's solution is therefore receiving attention, especially when the trend is that more and more businesses want to rely on the cloud but still keep important data nearby.
