Netflix's drama "Sweet Home," considered a staple of the "K-Creature" genre, has ended its four-year run and drawn mixed reactions from viewers.
Amid mixed reviews for the ending, “Sweet Home 3” landed at No. 7 on Netflix’s list of the top 10 most-watched TV shows, according to FlixPatrol.
Part 3, released on July 19, follows the final struggle of survivors in a world where humans turn into monsters driven by their desires, following part 1 released in December 2020 and part 2 in December 2023.
The plot brings together “half monster” Cha Hyun Soo (Song Kang), “special infected person” Pyeon Sang Wook (Lee Jin Wook) who is looking for a new host, “new human” Lee Eun Hyuk (Lee Do Hyun) who has no emotions, and a younger sister who is desperately searching for her older brother Lee Eun Yoo (Go Min Si).
According to Allkpop, many viewers praised the acting of Song Kang, Lee Do Hyun and Go Min Si, calling this an opportunity to rediscover the power of young stars. Many opinions said that part 3 has improved compared to part 2 which was harshly criticized.
“Fortunately, season 3 adds more depth to the characters, especially Song Kang, addressing many of the issues raised by season 2,” Screen Rant noted.
However, some people were disappointed with the complicated plot and ending of “Sweet Home 3”. They criticized the sudden disappearance of the main characters and a rushed ending.
NME commented: "Although slightly better than the previous instalment, it does not make the story clearer or more engaging. Some of the twists and turns are chaotic."
Despite mixed reviews, the global popularity of “Sweet Home 3” is likely to continue to grow, as evidenced by its rising ratings on various movie review sites.
For example, the Rotten Tomatoes audience score for “Sweet Home 3” increased from 56% immediately after its release on July 19 to 59% on July 21.
