On August 23, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases said it had admitted a 40-year-old patient in Hanoi who was hospitalized after his fever and headache symptoms did not improve despite taking medication for 4 days, along with a nosebleed.
The patient said that the area where his family lives is currently one of the complicated dengue fever outbreaks in Hanoi.
Test results at the hospital showed that the patient had pleural effusion, abdominal effusion and plasma leakage due to dengue fever. After examination, the doctor determined that the patient's condition was very dangerous and required immediate hospitalization for blood transfusion and close monitoring.
The dengue fever epidemic situation in Hanoi is complicated and unpredictable.
Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease caused by a virus, occurring all year round but most concentrated in the rainy season, when wet weather is favorable for mosquitoes to develop and transmit the disease. Dengue fever lasts for about a week.
Initially, the patient had a high fever for 6 days, accompanied by body and muscle aches. From days 3 to 7, platelets gradually decreased, blood thickened, the patient may have mucosal and visceral bleeding, blood clotting disorders, and possibly dengue shock.
To limit the seriousness of dengue fever, doctors say it is necessary to take care of and monitor the disease's progression, treat it promptly, and limit seriousness. Late detection and treatment can endanger the patient's life.
However, many people are still subjective and make some mistakes that make dengue fever worse, such as not going to the doctor, using antibiotics on their own, thinking that once the fever is gone, the disease is cured, and that having it once will not happen again.
Currently, there is no specific treatment for dengue fever, mainly treating symptoms and monitoring warning signs. Therefore, doctors recommend that patients need to be hospitalized when there are any of the following signs: mucosal bleeding, bleeding from the teeth, nose, digestive tract, abdominal pain in the liver area, severe vomiting, rapid decrease in platelet count and concentrated blood, little urine.
