Quang Ninh - After a week of taking weight-loss pills purchased online, a 38-year-old woman experienced chest pain and incoherent speech, and was diagnosed with acute poisoning, kidney failure, and cardiac arrhythmia.
On June 23, representatives from the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital reported that the patient was admitted in a state of fatigue, drowsiness, and a rapid pulse.
According to family members, for about a week, the patient had been taking weight-loss medication purchased online, after which they exhibited symptoms such as reduced appetite and sleep, fatigue, chest tightness, and delirium. Doctors are currently unsure of the specific brand of weight-loss medication the patient took.
Test results showed the patient suffered from acute poisoning, suspected to be due to weight-loss medication. Doctors in intensive care determined the poisoning was extremely critical, with severe cardiac arrhythmia, signs of renal failure, and severe hypokalemia. The patient was then transferred to the Poison Control Center at Bach Mai Hospital ( Hanoi ).
Doctors advise women to absolutely avoid using products sold online with unknown origins. People need to lose weight scientifically , combining a reasonable diet with regular exercise. Using weight-loss drugs, especially unproven rapid weight-loss drugs, is extremely dangerous and life-threatening.
