On the morning of May 22, Dr. Tran Quang Trung, Department of Neurosurgery - Spine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (Hanoi) said that Dr. Ly's health is in the process of recovery, occasionally still having fever due to infection. Vital functions such as cardiovascular, metabolism, liver, kidney, and spleen are stable.
Dr. Hoang Minh Ly's father has been taking care of his son at the hospital since the unfortunate accident at The Coffee House.
Regarding the lungs, when she was admitted to the hospital, the female doctor had severe bilateral hemothorax and now there is only fluid on both sides, not a cause for concern. The patient needs to practice sitting to avoid pneumonia and pleural thickening. The condition of the spinal surgery wound is temporarily stable.
The most difficult thing for the patient is to restore the nerve function of both legs. However, this process is very difficult, depending on the miracle and mental will of Dr. Ly himself. In addition, long-term catheterization has a high risk of urinary tract infection, causing fever.
Regarding the colon, the patient is taking laxatives so there is no need for an enema, the stool is soft and flows out into the diaper on its own.
Dr. Tran Quang Trung added that the hospital has contacted the best rehabilitation facilities such as Bach Mai Hospital or Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Branch 2 for Dr. Ly. The purpose of rehabilitation in the future is for the patient to sit by herself. Up to now, the young female doctor still cannot sit and needs help from the person next to her.
Assessing the treatment opportunities for the legs, Dr. Trung said that he had studied these injuries to find a chance for recovery for the patient. However, medical documents in the world so far have not been feasible. For example, the method of implanting spinal electrodes has been applied in Switzerland but is only indicated for cases of incomplete paralysis, while Dr. Ly's is complete paralysis...
Additionally, to make bowel and bladder care easier for the patient, further intervention may be needed...
Mr. Hoang Van Thanh (Dr. Hoang Minh Ly's father) shared that the family has prepared plans to take care of his daughter. In the near future, if he returns to work, he will ask his relatives in Hanoi to help. Currently, the agency is creating conditions for Mr. Thanh to apply for permission, but long-term treatment will be difficult.
Talking about his daughter's future plans, Mr. Thanh said: "We are only thinking about short-term steps, we cannot think about the long-term future. My daughter's spirit is very good, I just hope it will last long. Although she is still in a lot of pain, she still tries to talk to her parents."
During the more than 1 month since his child's accident, Mr. Thanh shared his emotions when he received care, concern, and encouragement from colleagues, friends, and the community.
To date, the family has completed the work with The Coffee House where the unfortunate accident occurred. Both sides are in good faith, all compensation has been completed.
On the evening of April 20, Ms. Hoang Minh Ly (29 years old, from Nghe An province, currently working at K Hospital) was drinking coffee with friends at The Coffee House on Thai Ha street, Trung Liet ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi.
At that time, it was raining heavily, a large glass panel from the second floor collapsed on her. The incident caused Ms. Ly to be hospitalized with serious injuries.
It is known that Ly's mother also has a severe prognosis of Lymphoma and is currently being treated at K Hospital. Ly's father is a soldier who has been working away from home for a long time. These continuous events have caused Ly's family to face many difficulties.
