On November 16, in Hoa Binh province, the Vietnam Journalists Association held a conference to summarize 17 years of the National Press Awards; summarize the work of supporting high-quality press works in 2022; and deploy support for high-quality press works in 2023 and 2024.

Attending the conference were Mr. Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuan - Editor-in-Chief of Hoa Binh Newspaper, President of the Hoa Binh Provincial Journalists Association; delegates from 25 northern provinces and cities; Journalists' Associations and Branches under the Vietnam Journalists Association.
Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Le Quoc Minh emphasized: "After 17 years of organization, the National Press Award has attracted more than 20,000 entries from all over the country, showing that the Award's appeal is growing, attracting the attention and participation of a large number of journalists and the public."
“The works that won the high prizes are those with serious and elaborate investment, many creative and vivid ways of expression, attracting readers, clearly demonstrating the capacity for digital transformation and journalistic innovation. However, in the context of increasingly developing science and technology, journalism technology is increasingly innovative, posing requirements and challenges in the process of organizing the Awards,” Mr. Le Quoc Minh added.

It is known that in 2022, the Vietnam Journalists Association successfully organized a conference to review the work of supporting high-quality press works in the period of 2016-2020; deploying instructions for implementing Decision 558/QD-TTg and Instruction 3824/HD-BVHTTDL dated October 15, 2021 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, implementing Decision No. 558/QD-TTg dated April 8, 2021 of the Prime Minister for the 3 regions of the North, Central - Central Highlands and Southern provinces. The conference assessed the achievements as well as the difficulties and limitations in the implementation, thereby drawing lessons to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Support Program in the next 5 years.
In particular, this Conference analyzed and evaluated the results achieved over 17 years of organizing the National Press Awards, the difficulties, obstacles and shortcomings in the organization process, thereby proposing proposals and solutions to innovate the activities of the Awards to suit the digital transformation trend, further enhancing the position of the largest specialized Award in the country.
At the same time, the Conference evaluated the results of 1 year of implementing the new phase of the High-Quality Support Program to draw lessons to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the program to support high-quality press works in 2023 and 2024.
In addition, delegates attending the Conference had discussions and contributed opinions, clarifying a number of issues such as: Evaluation of the results of the National Press Award over 17 years of implementation, current problems and shortcomings, and solutions and recommendations to improve the quality of the Award.
Next is the Program's contribution to consolidating expertise, improving professional skills for journalists during their work, enhancing the quality of press agency products, effectively serving the unit's work plans and local political tasks.
With a focus on selecting high-quality press works to participate in the National Press Awards, Provincial Press Awards and other specialized press awards in a quality and impartial manner.
Finally, there are the procedures and regulations in work appraisal; contract signing procedures, payment settlement and financial and accounting issues.

Sharing on the sidelines of the Conference with TG&VN Newspaper, Colonel Nguyen Van Hai, Vice President of the People's Army Newspaper Journalists Association said: "The in-depth thematic conference is very practical for the journalism work of all levels of the association and journalists. Through the conference, we can exchange valuable experiences of press agencies and all levels of the Journalists Association in general. Each reporter/journalist in particular has more useful information, experience, knowledge, and working skills to support professional work better and more effectively, serving the common tasks of the Party, State and people".
As one of the few people who have won many awards from the Association, journalist Colonel Nguyen Van Hai shared: “A winning work needs general criteria such as: Choosing a topic that has the nature of discovering new things or renewing old issues; being clear about the journalism genre and writing vividly; having a message, having a noble goal to help change people's awareness and behavior. The specific criteria are, being passionate about the profession, being dedicated, struggling, and exploring. New topics need serious "investment". There is participation, giving advice, guidance from superiors, and support from colleagues. The work demonstrates the collective strength of journalism. Accordingly, if we can promote individual strength and the support of colleagues, new journalistic works will be of good quality”.
With the high sense of responsibility of the Association at all levels, the active contribution of opinions from delegates and the scientific and professional working spirit of the Organizing Committee, the Conference clarified the outstanding results as well as the difficulties in the process of participating in the annual National Press Awards, proposed solutions to innovate and improve the quality of the Awards, in accordance with the current situation as well as evaluated the implementation of the Program to support high-quality press works in 2022 to meet the set requirements and the Conference was a great success.
On the same day, delegates continued to attend the conference to review 1 year of the emulation movement to build a cultural environment in press agencies and guide the implementation of the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association; summarize the work of managing members who are reporters of press agencies residing in localities.
