On November 21, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee held a meeting regarding the management and use of Nha Trang student dormitory (Vinh Hai ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province).

At the meeting, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that the Provincial People's Committee agreed to repair the Nha Trang student dormitory, after this dormitory was requisitioned as a centralized quarantine area to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic and has been abandoned until now.

"The purpose of repairing this dormitory is to arrange accommodation for students studying in Khanh Hoa province when needed," said Mr. Thieu.

Mr. Tran Van Chau - Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction - said that it is expected that after Lunar New Year 2025, the Nha Trang student dormitory will be repaired.

According to Mr. Dinh Van Thieu, after completing the repairs, the Nha Trang student dormitory will be handed over to Khanh Hoa University for management and operation.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Chu Dinh Loc - Vice Principal of Khanh Hoa University - said that the school still has dormitories but the demand for student accommodation is not high, in which only about 10% of the school's first-year students currently live in dormitories.

According to Mr. Loc, the location of Nha Trang student dormitory is quite far from the training facility of Khanh Hoa University.

Mr. Loc said that if the Nha Trang student dormitory is handed over to Khanh Hoa University for management, there will be many difficulties.

"Currently, the school's students in the dormitory area here are still not used up. If we transfer the Nha Trang student dormitory area, we will not be able to fully utilize it and will not be able to maximize its effectiveness," said Mr. Loc.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Thieu said the purpose of repairing the Nha Trang dormitory is to arrange accommodation for students from other provinces studying in Khanh Hoa province who need accommodation, not necessarily only students of Khanh Hoa University.

The Center for Housing and Apartment Management said that the Nha Trang student dormitory was built on an area of ​​over 11,000 square meters, with four five-story buildings with a total investment of 65 billion VND from government bond capital.

This project is invested by the Department of Construction of Khanh Hoa province, with the goal of meeting the accommodation needs of students of universities and colleges in Nha Trang city.

There were times when this dormitory received many students. However, the students gradually left, and for nearly a year now, this facility has been abandoned because no one lives there.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the dormitory was used as a field hospital. After the field hospital was dissolved, the dormitory became even more dilapidated and continued to be abandoned.
