The sequel to the animated comedy series about the fun minions "Despicable Me 4" had an impressive debut in North American theaters last weekend.
According to statistics from Exhibitor Relations, "Despicable Me 4", with the participation of American comedian Will Ferrell voicing the new villain, helped Universal Pictures earn 75 million USD after only 3 days of showing in the US and Canadian markets.
This achievement has affirmed the undeniable appeal of the "Minions universe". Commenting on the initial success of "Despicable Me 4", analyst David A. Gross commented: "This is an unexpected debut for the fourth part of an animated series, second only to Toy Story 4".
In this latest film, the "former villain" Gru must face a new enemy, Maxime Le Mal, and Valentina, who are planning revenge on him, forcing his family to go into hiding. Besides fighting to protect his family, Gru must also find common ground with a new family member, Gru Jr. - his first son.
The return of "Despicable Me 4" has made other competitors give way. After 3 weeks dominating the chart of the most popular films at theaters in North America, the animated film "Inside Out 2" released by Disney and Pixar fell to 2nd place with a revenue of 30 million USD. Coming in 3rd place is the apocalyptic horror film "A Quiet Place: Day One" after earning 21 million USD. The film tells the story of New Yorkers who must stay silent to survive the invasion of alien creatures with sensitive hearing.
Rounding out the top five were horror film "MaXXXine" with $6.7 million and action comedy "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" with $6.5 million.
